EU's Juncker unveils plans for 'new chapter' after Brexit

European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker has revealed his scenarios for the future of the EU, warning that the troubled bloc needs a "new chapter" after Britain's expected exit in 2019.

European Union leaders will consider the five "pathways to unity" laid out by Mr Juncker at a summit in Rome on 25 March to mark the 60th anniversary of the union's founding treaties.

Mr Juncker's so-called "White Paper" was presented to the European Parliament.

Britain's shock June 2016 vote to leave the EU - coupled with crises involving the economy and migration - has plunged the 28-nation EU into a deep bout of soul-searching.

EU leaders are keen to move on and not let the entire European project get bogged down in what promise to be difficult negotiations with Britain over its exit, which is expected in 2019.
