The Taliban on Friday launched its traditional spring offensive, which will include for the first time political as well as military objectives at a time of escalating conflict and a week after its worst attack on the Afghan army since 2001.
As well as continuing its military fight against Afghan and international forces, the new offensive -named "Operation Mansouri" in honor of former leader Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansour, who was killed last year in a US airstrike - includes plans to establish social justice and development mechanisms in areas under their control.
