The Pacific Command of the United States Armed Forces confirmed Saturday that North Korea carried out an unsuccessful missile launch, corroborating an earlier announcement by a South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman.
The Pacific Command "detected and followed" a North Korean missile launch at 21:21 GMT on Apr. 15 near the city of Sinpo, but the missile exploded almost immediately, US commander Dave Benham said in a statement.
"The missile blew up almost immediately," he said. "The type of missile is still being assessed."
Benham added that the US is fully committed to working closely with its allies South Korea and Japan to maintain regional security.
A South Korean Defence Ministry spokesperson informed EFE that Pyongyang had carried out the failed missile test from the eastern city of Sinpo.
