US military confirms DPRK's ballistic missile launch

DPRK's ballistic missile launch
The U.S. military said Thursday that it has detected and tracked what they assessed a single ballistic missile launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The initial assessment indicated that it was an intermediate range ballistic missile launch, occurring near Sunan in Pyongyang, at 11:57 a.m. Hawaii time (2157 GMT), the U.S. Pacific Command said in a statement.

The missile flew over northern Japan before landing in the Pacific Ocean east of Japan (East Sea), according to the statement.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed on Thursday that U.S. President Donald Trump has been briefed on the missile launch.

The U.S. military said this missile did not pose threat to either North America or Guam.

  1. China Friday refused to directly condemn North Korea over the launch of a missile earlier in the day in response to fresh sanctions by the United Nations over its sixth nuclear test.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said in a press conference that all resolutions of the UN Security Council, of which China is a permanent member, "oppose the development of the nuclear missile capability by North Korea and uphold non-proliferation."
