US-led airstrike kills 14 civilians in Syria's Deir al-Zour

14 civilians were killed and 32 others wounded
At least 14 civilians were killed and 32 others wounded on Monday in a U.S.-led airstrike in Syria's eastern city of Deir al-Zour, the state TV reported.

The strike targeted the government-controlled Al-Qosoor neighborhood in the city, said the report.

Meanwhile, the [so-called] "Syrian Observatory for Human Rights" said that the identity of the warplanes, which carried out the airstrike, is unknown.

The United States has been backing the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in their push to drive out the Islamic State (IS) militants from areas in the northern countryside of Deir al-Zour.

Meanwhile, the government forces continued to advance against IS in the southeastern countryside of Deir al-Zour, after stripping IS of the al-Mayadeen city, one of the IS key strongholds in Deir al-Zour province.
