US, Qatar hold 1st counterterrorism dialogue, eye further partnership

US State Department said Wednesday that US and Qatari officials met here earlier Wednesday for the first US-Qatari counterterrorism dialogue to facilitate bilateral coordination.


According to a State Department announcement, the two sides reviewed Qatar's positive progress in implementing the US-Qatar counterterrorism Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which was signed in Doha on July 11 by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Qatari Foreign Minister Mohamed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The MOU laid out the two nations' mutual commitments to increasing information sharing, disrupting terrorism financing flows, and intensifying counterterrorism activities.

During the dialogue, both sides were also committed to expanding bilateral partnership in counterterrorism financing, regulation of the charitable sector and aviation security.
