Israeli Attack on Al-Daba'a Airbase Aimed at Delaying Army Operations in Southern Syria

Army Operations in Southern Syria
A prominent Syrian military analyst said that the recent Israeli missile strikes on al-Daba'a airbase in Homs were aimed at delaying the army's military operations in Southern Syria.

Ali Maqsoud told the Arabic website of Sputnik news agency on Saturday that the Syrian army and its allies' field achievements and establishment of security in over 20,000sq/km of the Syrian territories in Damascus have angered Israel, adding that the Israeli regime has launched the strikes against the army positions in the past two days to slow down the pace of these victories.

He referred to the Israeli attacks against the army positions in Southwestern Homs and the ISIL offensives against the army in Hamimeh and the T2 and T3 stations in the past few days, noting that they have been guided by the US.

Maqsoud said that the attacks that have been conducted with the US forces' direct support indicate Israel's fear of the Syrian army and its allies' power.

The Syrian Air Defense units repelled a missile attack on a military airport in Southwestern Homs on Thursday night, the Syrian state news agency reported.

SANA reported on Friday that the air defense units intercepted missiles fired at a military airport in the Central part of the country.

  1. The U.S. State Department issued a stern warning to the Syrian military on Friday about launching a new operation in the southern provinces of Syria...

State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert stated that the U.S. is prepared to take “firm and appropriate measures in response to Assad regime violations.”

However, this warning does not appear to have any affect over the planned military operations, as reinforcements from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued to pour into the Dara’a and Al-Quneitra governorates.
