Los líderes demócratas piden activar el mecanismo para destituir a Trump

Los líderes demócratas en el Congreso han pedido al vicepresidente, Mike Pence, y al Gabinete de Trump que pongan en marcha la destitución de Trump por medio de la 25º enmienda de la Constitución.

 Nancy Pelosi, líder en la Cámara de Representantes, y Chuck Schumer, el nuevo líder de la mayoría en el Senado han asegurado que están dispuestos a facilitar el proceso en el Congreso.

 “Ha sido un acto de sedición”, mencionó Pelosi. El FBI ha emprendido este jueves la búsqueda de los responsables por el asalto al Capitolio. 

La agencia ha pedido, a través de sus redes sociales, imágenes o información que sirvan para identificarlos. 

La ciudad de Washington ha extendido la orden de emergencia emitida este miércoles por la alcaldesa, Muriel Bowser, 15 días más para cubrir la investidura de Joe Biden y Kamala Harris y los días posteriores, lo que facilita la solicitud de recursos para proteger la ciudad y a sus habitantes...

  1. Bajo esa enmienda, si el vicepresidente y la mayoría de los secretarios del Gabinete concluyen que el presidente es "incapaz de cumplir con los poderes y deberes de su cargo", pueden formularlo por escrito ante los líderes del Congreso.

    1. La presidenta de la Cámara de Representantes, Nancy Pelosi, ha instado a invocar la 25ª enmienda a la Constitución de Estados Unidos para destituir al presidente Donald Trump. La iniciativa de apartar a Trump de su cargo inmediatamente surgió después del violento asalto de este miércoles al Capitolio en Washington D. C. protagonizado por los partidarios del mandatario saliente.

La destitución es posible bajo la sección 4 de dicha enmienda, y para aplicarla, el vicepresidente y la mayoría de los secretarios del Gabinete deben concluir que Trump es "incapaz de cumplir con los poderes y deberes de su cargo". Una vez que lo hagan y formulen por escrito ante los líderes del Congreso, las funciones presidenciales se delegan automáticamente en el vicepresidente, Mike Pence, hasta la toma de posesión del presidente electo.

    3. Si el presidente objeta esta decisión, será el Congreso del que dependerá la destitución. Hacen falta dos tercios de los votos tanto de la Cámara de Representantes como del Senado para que el vicepresidente se quede con las funciones presidenciales.

      "Do they stand by these actions? Are they ready to say for the next 13 days that this dangerous man can do more harm to our democracy?"

      Pelosi goes on to say that the House may be forced to file of articles of impeachment due to Trump's recent "seditious acts".

      "Although it's only 13 days left, any day could be a horror show," she tells reporters.

      Pelosi adds that Democrats are contacting her, demanding another attempt to remove Trump from office.

    Four people died when a mob loyal to President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building, damaging property and forcing lawmakers to take refuge.

    Top Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer has now called for Mr Trump to be removed from office immediately.

    Transport Secretary Elaine Chao has joined those quitting over the riots.

    Several lower-level Trump administration officials have also resigned.

    The leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, says if Mr Trump is not removed from office, impeachment should be an option.
