Pelosi threatens Pence with 24-hour ultimatum to declare Trump ‘incapable’, before Dems launch impeachment process — RT

The Democrat-majority House is set to vote on a resolution demanding VP Mike Pence to invoke the 25th amendment, and giving him 24 hours to respond, before proceeding with impeaching President Trump.

In a letter to her Democratic colleagues on Sunday night, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) urged them to adopt Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin’s 25th Amendment resolution by unanimous consent – which is poised to be blocked by Trump’s remaining Republican allies.

If we do not receive Unanimous Consent, this legislation is planned to be brought up on the Floor the following day. We are calling on the Vice President to respond within 24 hours. Next, we will proceed with bringing impeachment legislation to the Floor.

Evoking the “horror of the ongoing assault” on US democracy and constitution in the wake of the US Capitol siege, Pelosi urged the lawmakers to “act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both.”

  1. Democratic members of the US House of Representatives are planning to pass a resolution urging Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to oust President Donald Trump.

In a letter Sunday to her colleagues, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Majority Leader Steny Hoyer will request unanimous consent to bring up the resolution drafted by Rep. Jamie Raskin.

The bill calls on Pence "to convene and mobilize the Cabinet to activate the 25th Amendment to declare the President incapable of executing the duties of his office."

"If we do not receive Unanimous Consent, this legislation is planned to be brought up on the Floor the following day. We are calling on the Vice President to respond within 24 hours.

"Next, we will proceed with bringing impeachment legislation to the Floor," wrote Pelosi.

Pelosi vowed Democrats will act with urgency, saying Trump poses "an imminent threat" to the Constitution and American democracy.

"As the days go by, the horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is intensified and so is the immediate need for action," she added.

  2. Members of the GOP are warning against efforts to impeach President Trump ahead of Inauguration Day on January 20.

Democrats continue to push forward with their effort to impeach the President for the second time, in a bid to remove him from office when he has fewer than 10 days left. However, they face the likelihood there won’t be enough Republican support to make it happen.

On Friday, reports detailed a letter sent to Joe Biden by GOP Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), which was signed by seven lawmakers. The letter urged him to block House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment efforts.

    1. In a tweet, Buck said, “in the spirit of healing and fidelity to our Constitution, I’m asking Biden to request Pelosi discontinue her efforts.”

The letter itself said the Constitution does not envision impeaching a president without an adequate investigation and congressional hearings. It said impeachment should not occur in the heat of the moment, but after “great deliberation.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy also spoke out against the effort. He said impeaching a president with less than two weeks left in the term will only divide the country more.

McCarthy called on leaders to refocus their efforts on working directly for the American people. These calls are not only coming from the lower chamber, but upper chamber as well.
