Le 19 avril, les forces de l’ordre ont utilisé du gaz lacrymogène pour disperser les manifestants du parti islamiste radical Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) à Karachi, la plus grande ville du pays.
Le TLP a été désigné organisation terroriste par le gouvernement pakistanais la semaine dernière après plusieurs jours de violences suite à l’arrestation du chef du parti, Saad Rizvi. Ce dernier avait donné au gouvernement un ultimatum pour expulser l'ambassadeur de France, en protestation à la défense des caricatures de Mahomet par Paris.
Pakistan’s Parliament is expected to consider a resolution on Tuesday about whether the French envoy should be expelled over the publication of controversial cartoons depicting Islam’s Prophet, testing whether the government gives in to threats from radical Islamists.

DeleteThe fate of the resolution was unclear, but Parliament’s mere discussion of the matter would be a test of whether Prime Minister Imran Khan succumbs to pressure from the hardline - and outlawed - Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan party.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, Pakistan’s interior minister, announced the proposal in a video message after overnight talks with representatives of the party, which has been rallying since last week for the expulsion of the French ambassador....afp
