North Korea fires missile into sea – reports — RT World News

North Korea appears to have launched two short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan (East Sea), the South Korean military announced on Thursday morning local time.

The missiles were allegedly fired towards the sea from the North Korean city of Hamhung around 8am local time and flew around 190km before falling into the water.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that South Korea and the United States were conducting a “detailed analysis” on the incident.

Thursday’s launch comes just two days after the test-firing of two cruise missiles on Tuesday morning. It is the sixth such incident since the beginning of 2022, involving at least nine missiles of various types – ballistic, cruise, and even hypersonic, as claimed by Pyongyang.

While North Korea is prohibited from launching ballistic missiles under UN resolutions, cruise missiles are not explicitly banned by the UN.

  1. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired two short-range projectiles into its eastern waters, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said on Thursday.

The JCS said in a statement that the South Korean military detected two projectiles, presumed to be short-range ballistic missiles, which were launched around the DPRK's east coastal city of Hamhung toward the East Sea at about 8:00 a.m. local time (2300 GMT Wednesday).

The JCS noted that the South Korean military was monitoring relevant situation and maintaining readiness posture to prepare for the possibly additional launch.

The DPRK said it conducted four missile tests in January, including a hypersonic missile on Jan. 5 and Jan. 11 each, two railway-borne short-range ballistic missiles on Jan. 14, and two tactical guided missiles on Jan. 17.

The South Korean military said the DPRK launched two unidentified missiles, believed to be cruise missiles, into the East Sea on Jan. 25.
