More than 1000 killed after strong earthquake 6.1 jolts Afghanistan, 1500 other injured

 

 At least 1000 killed and 1500 other injured after magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocked remote parts of eastern Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan.

The death toll from a powerful earthquake in Afghanistan has climbed to 1000, with more than 1500 others wounded, according to the Taliban’s disaster management official, as rescuers try to reach the site of the disaster in remote Paktika and Khost provinces.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the magnitude of the earthquake in the early hours of Wednesday was 5.9, revising an initial estimate at 6.1.
The epicenter of the tremor was about 46km (27 miles) from the city of Khost, near the Pakistani border, the USGS said.

Earlier it was reported about 255 dead, with at least 150 injured

  1. Iran sent consignments of medical supplies to Afghanistan on Wednesday in the wake of a strong earthquake that has killed over 1,000 people in the neighboring country.

    The Iranian Embassy in Kabul said in a message on Wednesday that Iran has dispatched two planes loaded with first aid supplies to Afghanistan after the earthquake.

    It also offered sympathy and condolences to the Afghan nation.

    At least 1,000 people have been killed and more than 1,500 others have been injured after the magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocked remote parts of southeastern Afghanistan early Wednesday.

    The death toll has continued to rise throughout the day, as rescue teams arrive in the mountainous area around the quake’s epicenter.
