Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, stressed that the shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by the Ukrainian army poses a risk of a major catastrophe.
The conversation took place on the initiative of the French side.
“Vladimir Putin, in particular, stressed that the systematic shelling by the Ukrainian military of the territory of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant creates the risk of a large-scale catastrophe that could lead to radiation contamination of vast territories,” the Kremlin website said in a statement.

The leaders noted the importance of sending an IAEA mission to the nuclear power plant as soon as possible, which would be able to assess the real situation.
