Conflict in Ukraine carries risks for military security of Belarus, Defense Minister says

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin sees threats to the military security of Belarus over the conflict in Ukraine, he said during a briefing Thursday.

"As of today, the conflict in Ukraine, provoked by the West, also carries risks and challenges to the military security of our state. Even though Belarusians do not fight with Ukraine," the Minister said, according to Defense Ministry press office.

The Minister considers "intensification and toughening of the Western informational campaign against the state in all vital areas - especially ideological, social, cultural and informational ones" an additional factor that negatively affects the state of Belarusian national security.

In this regard, the Defense Minister expects "intensification of the wide-scale, multi-vector influence on conscience and worldview of the population in order to undermine the state ideology, to destroy the existing vertical of power and to create a negative perception of Russia and Belarus."
