Air Raid Sirens Sound In Ukraine, Including Capital, Ahead Of Partners Visit

Air raid sirens went off across Ukraine, including in the capital, on Monday ahead of the visit of important partners, according to the online air alert map of the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation.



The sirens went off at about 09:25 GMT, the ministry said.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian media reported that the streets in downtown Kiev blocked due to the arrival of foreign delegations.

  •  US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting at St. Michael's Cathedral in Kiev, the Strana.ua news portal reported on Monday.


The news portal also showed the first footage of Biden on Mykhailivska Square, where he walks to the sound of air raid sirens that went off across the country on Monday.

Earlier in the day, the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper reported Biden is currently in the Ukrainian capital.

  1. US President Joe Biden is in the city of Kiev, the Ukrainian media outlet Strana reported.

    According to its information, Biden, together with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, is on the square near St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, which belongs to the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

    The media outlet posted several videos on its Telegram channel showing the leaders of the two countries leaving the territory of the monastery, and then visiting a nearby memorial to soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces, who died during Kiev's operation in Donbass. At the same time, an air-raid alert has been declared in the city.

    The Ukrainian president confirmed the presence of his American counterpart in Kiev.

    Zelensky posted a picture of him shaking hands with Biden, who wore a tie in the colors of the Ukrainian flag on the occasion of his arrival. "Joseph Biden, welcome to Kiev! Your visit is a very important sign of support for all Ukrainians," Zelensky wrote.

  3. Washington got in touch with Moscow shortly before US President Joe Biden’s visit to Ukraine in a bid to avoid any possible conflict situations, Associated Press said on Monday citing the White House.

    According to the White House, "basic communication with the Russians occurred to ensure deconfliction" shortly ahead of Biden’s visit to exclude any miscalculation that could lead to a conflict between the two nuclear powers, it said.
