European Parliament reject amendment to resolution on Ukraine calling for ceasefire, peace negotiations

The European Parliament rejected on Thursday an amendment calling for the EU to increase efforts to ensure a ceasefire and peace negotiations in its resolution on one year of Russia’s special military operation.

The point saying that the European Parliament considers Ukraine’s victory possible only "through the continued, sustained and steadily increasing supply of all types of weapons to Ukraine, without exception" replaced the intended amendment that "underlines that the main objective for the EU is to ensure peace in Ukraine; calls for the EU and its Member States to increase their efforts to ensure a ceasefire and peace negotiations, and urges them to back the peace initiative proposed by Brazilian President Lula da Silva to use international mediation as a way to put an end to the war".

The parliamentarians declined the amendment.
