Pension Reform Protests Continue in France for Fifth Day

Plans are afoot for a fifth day of nationwide strikes and protests in France Thursday against a pension reform that is the flagship policy of President Emmanuel Macron’s second term.

French unions have announced a fifth day of strikes by workers protesting against President Emmanuel Macron's pension reform plans.

The proposed bill aims to raise the minimum retirement age from 62 to 64, with Macron arguing the changes are necessary for the long-term viability of the pension system.

The latest strike, held on Thursday, saw fewer workers participate due to school holidays across most of the country. While main line trains and the Paris metro ran normally during the day, employees at energy company EDF lowered output by over 3,000 megawatts without impacting end-user supply.
