US Troops Smuggle More Syrian Oil into Bases on Iraqi Soil

Local sources in the Syrian town of al-Ya'rubiyah said a US convoy consisting of 77 vehicles and carrying 32 tankers filled with stolen Syrian oil entered their bases in Iraq through the illegal Al-Waleed crossing.

The convoy was also escorted by six armored vehicles, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported on Tuesday. This is the latest incident in a series of oil looting that has been going on for years.

In the previous month, American troops took away 80 tankers of crude oil from Syria's al-Jazeera oil fields to their bases in Iraq.

The Syrian government has accused the US and its allies of sponsoring destruction and militancy in Syria since March 2011.

The US military has stationed its forces and equipment in northeastern Syria, with the Pentagon claiming that the deployment is aimed at preventing the oil fields in the area from falling into the hands of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists.

Damascus maintains that the deployment is meant to plunder Syria’s natural resources. Former US president Donald Trump admitted on several occasions that American forces were in the Arab country for its oil wealth.
