UN chief says Israel’s way of fighting war obstructing aid to Gaza

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the way Israel is waging war on Gaza has created “massive obstacles” for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the war-torn territory where people are facing famine.
In a short post on social media in the hours following a UN Security Council resolution demanding that flows of humanitarian aid to Gaza increase, Guterres said the Israeli military was the obstacle to achieving that demand.

“An effective aid operation in Gaza requires security; staff who can work in safety; logistical capacity; and the resumption of commercial activity,” he said.

  1. The UN Security Council on Friday passed a key resolution, emphasizing the immediate acceleration of aid deliveries to the distressed civilians in Gaza, but without the original call for an "urgent suspension of hostilities" between Israel and Hamas.

Resolution 2720 demands parties to the conflict "allow, facilitate and enable the immediate, safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance at scale directly to the Palestinian civilian population throughout the Gaza Strip, and in this regard calls for urgent steps to immediately allow safe, unhindered, and expanded humanitarian access and to create the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities."
