‘Terrorist attack’ near Qassem Soleimani’s grave in Iran’s Kerman kills 103

A “terrorist attack” on Wednesday near a cemetery in the Iranian city of Kerman where slain commander Qassem Soleimani is buried killed 103 people and wounded 170 others, a spokesman for Iran’s emergency services said.

State media reported that two explosions occurred in close succession during a ceremony where crowds had gathered to commemorate the fourth anniversary of Soleimani’s killing.

A deputy governor of Kerman province described the incident as a “terrorist attack.”

 Two blasts occurred at an event held in Iran’s southern city of Kerman in commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the martyrdom of late commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, killing at least 20 people and injuring dozens of others on Wednesday.

The first blast happened at 15:04 local time as people were packed on a road leading to a cemetery where the tomb of General Soleimani is located.

The second blast occurred 13 minutes later.

Initial reports suggest that at least 20 people, including children, have died in the twin blasts, and 60 others have been wounded.

Provincial officials have described the incident as a terrorist attack.

    Earlier, Iranian media reported two explosions that killed at least 73 people and injured another 170. The explosions, as reported by the Iranian Tasnim agency, were carried out remotely: two bags with explosives were located near the entrance to a cemetery in the city of Kerman.
