Quinze détenus de la prison militaire de Guantanamo, ouverte après les attentats du 11-Septembre pour y regrouper les prisonniers de la "guerre contre le terrorisme" du président George W. Bush, ont été transférés aux Emirats arabes unis (EAU), a annoncé lundi le Pentagone.

White House: No bypass of Congress for Guantanamo closure

The White House said on Friday it aimed to work with US lawmakers towards closing Guantanamo and was not "drafting options" for circumventing a congressional ban on transferring detainees to US soil.

"Our position right now, our policy right now, is seeking support from Congress to lift the restrictions which we feel are misguided," White House spokesman Eric Schultz told reporters.

Washington violates UN Convention against Torture by delaying declassification of the US Senate Report on George W. Bush-era CIA torture techniques, Konstantin Dolgov, Russian Foreign Ministry Commissioner for Human Rights, said Wednesday.

"The Obama administration violates the Convention against Torture by delaying declassification of the Report and by refusing to bring the perpetrators to justice," Dolgov wrote in his Twitter micro-blog.

Dolgov also noted that the leaks in the media indicate that internal investigation by US authorities might have revealed previously undisclosed methods of torture.

Εβαζαν τους κρατούμενους στο Γκουαντάναμο να τραφούν με σωληνάκι, δεμένοι επί ώρες

Έγγραφο που αποκαλύπτει τις τεχνικές που χρησιμοποιούν οι ΗΠΑ για την υποχρεωτική σίτιση κρατουμένων-απεργών πείνας, δημοσιεύει σήμερα για πρώτη φορά στην ιστοσελίδα του το Al Jazeera.

Οι κρατούμενοι απεργοί πείνας υποβάλλονταν σε μια «σκληρή και απάνθρωπη» διαδικασία όπως υπογραμμίζει το Al Jazeera κατά την οποία υποχρεώνονταν «να φοράνε μάσκες πάνω από τα στόματά τους, ενώ ήταν δεμένοι σε ειδικό κάθισμα επί δυο ώρες.
Οι κρατούμενοι παρέμεναν έτσι, με ένα σωληνάκι 61 εκατοστών ή και μεγαλύτερο που περνούσε από το ρουθούνι και τον οισοφάγο, μέχρι να επιβεβαιωθεί μέσω ακτινογραφίας ή σχετικού τεστ, ότι η υγρή τροφή έχει φτάσει στο στομάχι τους. Στο τέλος της διαδικασίας, ο κρατούμενος μετακινούταν από το ειδικό κάθισμα και μεταφέροταν σε ένα στεγνό κελί, χωρίς τρεχούμενο νερό. Ο φύλακας στην συνέχεια επέβλεπε τον κρατούμενο για 45-60 λεπτά, ώστε να αποφευχθεί ή όποια προσπάθεια πρόκλησης εμετού. Εάν ο κρατούμενος έκανε εμετό, επέστρεφε στο ειδικό κάθισμα».
