Greece files protest to Austria over Balkan migrants meeting

Greece made a strongly worded complaint to Austria Tuesday for drastically restricting migrant crossings, as police at the Greek border with FYROM [***] removed hundreds of Afghan migrants stranded at a camp there.

Croatia is encouraging migrants to illegally cross borders, Hungary's foreign minister said this afternoon, after a convoy of Croatian buses took hundreds of migrants to the Hungarian frontier.

Announcement regarding 31 years of the pseudo-state in Cyprus

"The unilateral declaration of the illegal secessionist entity of the pseudo-state in the occupied section of the Republic of Cyprus and the insistence for 31 years now on the fabrication that is the “TRNC” is a blatant flouting of the international legal order and the resolutions of the United Nations. This illegal conduct, in combination with the ongoing military occupation and illegal settlement, contributes to both the violation of the human rights of Cypriot citizens and the isolation of the Turkish Cypriot community.

I would like to hope that this is a positive sign regarding the stance of all of the political forces at tomorrow’s meeting of the Standing Committee on Defense and Foreign Affairs, as well, and more generally as we go through a period full of challenges for our Nation and for our wider region.

E. VENIZELOS: Mr. Espen Barth Eide and I had a long and very substantial discussion about the situation that has taken shape in Cyprus, following the latest provocative actions on the part of Turkey, which openly questions the sovereign rights and even the very existence of the Republic of Cyprus.
Of course, Mr. Eide, an experienced politician who also has the Norwegian experience with regard to the exploitation of hydrocarbons, has a very specific mission, which we support: To achieve a return to the negotiations between the leaders of the two communities, within the framework of what was agreed upon in February 2014.

1. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, H.E. Mr. Evangelos Venizelos, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Sameh Hassan Shoukry and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus H.E. Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides, held a trilateral meeting today, 29 October 2014, in Nicosia. This is the third such meeting between Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the three countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos’ statement on arrival in Cyprus

JOURNALIST: Mr. Minister, what should we expect from the ministerial meeting tomorrow? Some say that it is another small stamp on the upgrading of the relations between Greece, Cyprus and Egypt.

E. VENIZELOS: The trilateral cooperation between Greece, Cyprus and Egypt has been under way for some time now, and this is the third trilateral ministerial meeting, which we are holding in preparation for the first Summit Meeting, which will take place in a few days, in Cairo. So we are upgrading our cooperation due to the crises, as well, that are currently present throughout the region. Moreover, this is a very important moment for the Republic of Cyprus, because we have the Turkish provocation, the disputing of the existence and legal personality of the Republic of Cyprus, along with its sovereign rights.

Deputy PM and FM to visit Cyprus – Trilateral meeting with the FM of Cyprus and Egypt (Nicosia, 28-29 October 2014)

Hellenic MFA, Monday, 27 October 2014:
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos will travel to Nicosia on Tuesday, 28 October, where he will meet with Foreign Minister Kasoulides on the current situation and preparations for the visit Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will carry out to Cyprus on 7 November, accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Tomorrow afternoon, Mr. Venizelos will attend the Greek Embassy’s event marking the 28 October anniversary, and on Wednesday morning he will meet with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades.
