Migrant boat sinks off Greece's Lesbos, five dead: Athens News Agency

A boat carrying an unknown number of refugees and migrants sank off Greece's Lesbos island early on Monday and five bodies have been recovered on a shore north of the island, the Athens News Agency reported.

Flüchtlinge und Migranten, die im Ionischen Meer westlich von Griechenland angetroffen werden, gelten bei der griechischen Küstenwache als “unüblich”. Anders als jene, die von der Türkei zu den ostgriechischen Inseln übersetzen, stammen die meisten von ihnen aus Nordafrika und wollen an Griechenland vorbei direkt nach Italien übersetzen.

Greece to House Refugees on Ferries Following Massive Fire at Moria Camp

Greece's merchant marine ministry said the ships are needed to satisfy an “immediate and urgent need to host, cater and perhaps transfer” at least 1,000 people displaced after the Moria refugee camp on the island of Lesbos was destroyed by fire.

Grèce: des dizaines de migrants pakistanais en grève de la faim à Lesbos

 The Greek coastguard rescued 242 migrants when their wooden boat sank north of the island of Lesbos on Wednesday, but at least three drowned, including two small boys, authorities said.
