Ukraine to reduce funding of scientific researches in favor of weapons production (after a meeting with the military in the city of Slavyansk)

Ukraine will retrench financing of research programs "no one needs" in favor of expanding weapons production, Ukraine’s President Petr Poroshenko said after a meeting with the military in the city of Slavyansk.

"Billions of budgetary funds, taxpayer money will not any longer be spent on research program no one really needs, which were only used as a tool of embezzlement," the press service of the Ukrainian head of state quoted him as saying on Tuesday.

Ready for global disaster? Scientists leave 'Doomsday Clock' at five to midnight

The Science and Security Board of the US-based Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has warned UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that the hand of the Bulletin's symbolic Doomsday Clock still remains at five minutes to midnight because "the risk of civilization-threatening technological catastrophe remains high."

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is an online magazine that covers global security issues related to the dangers posed by weapons of mass destruction and emerging technologies. It was founded in 1945 after the US atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

UN, 21 November 2013 – Marking World Philosophy Day, the head the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) today appealed to every professional, author and teacher worldwide to unleash the power of critical thinking, and urged the international community to engage in reasoned dialogue to help find common solutions to shared challenges.

“This day is an invitation to rethink the conditions for inclusion and sustainability in societies that are increasingly diverse and ever more interconnected, between themselves and with their environment,” said UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova in her message for the Day, which this year in on the theme “Inclusive Societies, Sustainable Planet.”

L’asteroide 2013 TV135, che misura 410 metri, potrebbe colpire il nostro pianeta, provocando un’esplosione paragonabile a 50 bombe atomiche.

 Nonostante le possibilità siano molto basse, una su 63.000 secondo la “scala Torino” che misura la pericolosità di questi corpi celesti, gli scienziati hanno inserito questo oggetto spaziale nella lista degli asteroidi pericolosi. Quando? Nel 2032. E' stato scoperto nella costellazione delle Giraffe dall’”Osservatorio della Crimea” nel Sud dell’Ucraina da Gennady Borisov.

Diversi astronomi di tutto il mondo hanno specificato che questo asteroide dovrebbe passare a circa 1 milione e mezzo di chilometri dalla terra, troppo vicino per stare tranquilli.
