Turkey denies giving U.S. access to Incirlik airbase

Turkey denied on Monday having granted the United States access to its Incirlik air base to be used for attacking Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants in Syria.
A government official said there was no new agreement over the use by the United States of the Incirlik air base in southern Turkey, which U.S. air forces already use for logistical and humanitarian purposes.
“There is no new agreement with the United States about Incirlik,” the official, who asked not to be named, told AFP in Ankara.
“Negotiations are continuing” based on conditions Turkey had previously laid out such as a safe zone inside Syria backed up by a no-fly zone, the official added.

U.S. welcomes Okinawa governor's decision on Marine base relocation

U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Friday welcomed the approval by the governor of Japan's Okinawa Prefecture of landfill work for the relocation of a U.S. Marine Corps air base within the prefecture.

"I welcome the governor of Okinawa's decision to approve the landfill permit request to build" a relocation facility for the Futenma Air Station off the Henoko coastal area of Nago, Hagel said in a statement.

"It is the most significant milestone achieved in these realignment efforts so far," Hagel said, referring to "many years of sustained effort" to move the facility from a densely populated area in Ginowan.

Romania builds base for US missile system. -Russia has voiced strong opposition against the missile defense plans.

Romania Oct. 28 started building a military base, which will host a U.S. ballistic missile defense system as part of the NATO system.

The plan is to have the Deveselu base in southern Romania operational in 2015. It will house SM-3 interceptor missiles and radar equipment.

‘Serious partnership’

Russia has voiced strong opposition against the missile defense plans, fearing they could jeopardize its own security. Romanian President Traian Basescu and U.S. Under-Secretary of Defense for Policy James Miller attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Aegis Ashore missile defense system. Romanian Defense Minister Mircea Dusa said: “This is a serious partnership with the U.S. It is the first capability of its kind being deployed here in Eastern Europe.

US Starts Transfer of its Airbase in Kyrgyzstan. -Hagel thanked Romania for its decision to host the U.S. Aegis Ashore missile defense system.

MOSCOW, October 19 (RIA Novosti) – The United States has started the withdrawal from an airbase in Kyrgyzstan that serves as the main transit hub for NATO forces in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said in a statement on Friday.

In 2011, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev announced plans to shut the base down by 2014, when the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) is to be pulled out of Afghanistan.

He signed a bill ordering the closure of the base into law in June. It stipulates that US forces must abandon the base at Manas International Airport, near the capital Bishkek, by July 2014.

Mubarak revela que EE.UU. quería bases militares en Egipto a "cualquier precio"

El expresidente de Egipto Hosni Mubarak declaró desde prisión que Estados Unidos había pedido a su gobierno una base militar en la nación árabe a "cualquier precio", para "asegurar la seguridad de Israel".

"Estados Unidos nos ha estado presionando siempre para obtener bases militares en Egipto y siempre me negaba a autorizarlo", dijo Mubarak en una conversación grabada desde la prisión de Tora en El Cairo (capital), donde cumple condena por la muerte de 850 manifestantes durante la rebelión popular en su contra en enero de 2011.

Mubarak contó que en una oportunidad el antiguo ministro de Defensa de Egipto Abu Ghazale se presentó en su despacho y le dijo que Estados Unidos le había pedido montar una base militar en Egipto y que "yo estuve de acuerdo".

Kyrgyz Leader Finalizes US Airbase Closure

BISHKEK, June 26 (RIA Novosti)
 – The president of the Central Asian nation of Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday signed a bill ordering the closure of a US airbase that serves as the main transit hub for NATO forces in Afghanistan.

According to the bill, US forces must abandon the base at Manas International Airport, near the capital Bishkek, by July 2014

The Kyrgyz parliament overwhelmingly approved the legislation last week.

Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev already in 2011 announced plans to shut the base down by 2014, when the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force is to be pulled out of Afghanistan.
