MOSCOW — Russian officials pressed Ukraine on Monday to declare a cease-fire with separatists, but Ukrainians say they are locked in a war not just against the rebels but also against Russia — on behalf of Europe.
“A great war has come, the likes of which Europe has not seen since the Second World War,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Heletey said on his Facebook page Monday, adding that Ukraine must keep fighting and “show that Ukrainians are not going to give up.”

"Siamo in guerra, è una Terza guerra mondiale, ma a pezzi". Così il Papa ha denunciato l’efferatezza delle guerre non convenzionali e che sia stato raggiunto "un livello di crudeltà spaventosa" di cui spesso sono vittime civili inermi, donne e bambini.


"La tortura è diventata un mezzo quasi ordinario", ha detto Papa Francesco. "Di fronte al dolore umano non si può essere neutrali", ha poi spiegato parlando delle vittime del naufragio del Sewol. Alcuni parenti gli hanno regalato un fiocchetto giallo in ricordo dei morti che il Papa porta appuntato su petto. Qualcuno, ha detto, gli ha consigliato di toglierlo per essere neutrale. "Ho sentito di dovermi avvicinare, il dolore umano è tanto forte, e insieme ci aiutiamo".

Ukraine PM, Mr. Yatsenyuk: Russia Wants to Start World War Three.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk is accusing Russia of wanting to occupy Ukraine "militarily and politically," as both Kyiv and Moscow mass troops close to their mutual border.

Mr. Yatsenyuk warned Friday that Russia's actions could lead to a wider military conflict in Europe. He told an interim Cabinet meeting that Moscow "wants to start World War Three."

U.S. President Barack Obama also criticized what he called Russia's "further meddling" in eastern Ukraine, where armed, pro-Russian separatists have occupied government buildings.
