The Turkish Embassy in Berlin on July 4 sent an “urgent” diplomatic note to the German Foreign Ministry over what it described as a “provocative act” by a local artist against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in front of the chancellery building.

Clashes erupt in Kashmir over Charlie Hebdo's cartoons

Indian police fired warning shots and tear smoke shells Friday to disperse irate youth in Indian-controlled Kashmir protesting publication of cartoons of Islam's prophet in French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, witnesses and police said.

The magazine in its last week's issue features caricature of Prophet Muhammad weeping on its cover in what is termed as a " survivors" issue.

U.S., Russia exchange threats at tense U.N. meeting.

Russia and the United States exchanged threats Wednesday at a tense U.N. Security Council meeting over the Ukraine crisis, with Moscow’s envoy warning that the U.S. ambassador’s “insults” are jeopardizing Moscow’s willingness to cooperate with Washington on other diplomatic matters.

It was the council’s eighth meeting in less than three weeks on Ukraine, a show of determination by Western powers to highlight Russia’s diplomatic isolation over the Crimean Peninsula - even if the council is powerless to act because of Moscow’s veto power as a permanent council member.
