Kuwait Pledges $2 Billion for Iraq's Reconstruction

Ya'alon: Israel can't allow Gaza reconstruction if Hamas rebuilds infiltration tunnels

Israel will not allow construction materials to enter the Gaza Strip if Hamas rebuilds infiltration tunnels destroyed by the IDF during Operation Protective Edge, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said on Monday.

During a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at his officein New York, Ya'alon expressed his concern over a Hamas claim that its members were continuing to dig underground passageways leading from the coastal enclave into Israel.

Israel allows construction materials shipment to Gaza (Palestinian official)


Israel allowed the first shipment of construction raw material in the Gaza Strip to start a reconstruction process that will be funded by international donors, a Palestinian official said on Tuesday.

Raed Fattouh, the Palestinian liaison officer at Kerem Shalom crossing point between Israel and southeast Gaza Strip, told Xinhua that Israel allowed on Tuesday 75 trucks carrying cements, gravel and iron for construction.

"Israel allowed through the commercial crossing today 15 trucks of cements, 10 trucks carrying iron for construction and 50 trucks carrying gravel to the Palestinian private sector in coordination with the United Nations," he said.

Donor Countries to Provide Total of $5.4 Bln for Gaza Reconstruction

CAIRO, October 12 - Donor countries that took part in a conference in Cairo, aimed to raise money to rebuild the Gaza Strip, promised to provide a total of $5.4 billion for Gaza reconstruction, Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende said after the three-day-long forum ended.

President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas announced at the conference that the rebuilding of Gaza requires $4 billion.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry unveiled on Saturday a $212 million aid plan to help the Gaza Strip after it was devastated by a 50-day war between Israel and Hamas.
Kerry, who was one of 30 ministers attending the donor conference for the reconstruction of Gaza, said the Palestinians needed immediate assistance and that the humanitarian challenge was "enormous.”
“The people of Gaza do need our help, desperately, not tomorrow, not next week, they need it now,” he said told the Cairo meeting.

Israel should play a role in the reconstruction of Gaza, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a press briefing Wednesday. 

"We do think that Israel will need to play a role in Gaza reconstruction," Psaki said when asked if Israel should play a greater role in the reconstruction of Gaza.

Middle East: UN envoy announces deal on reconstruction in Gaza

UN,  16 September 2014 – With the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire holding in the Gaza Strip, the United Nations has reached agreement with Israel and Palestinian Authority on a new reconstruction mechanism for the enclave as “an important step” in the right direction to kick start recovery and rehabilitation and give hope to the people there, a senior UN envoy announced today.

That announcement was made today by the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Robert Serry, as he briefed the Security Council on the situation in the region.
