Germany rejects Greek WW2 reparations claim

Germany dismissed Greece's demands to pay World War II reparations on Wednesday after Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras accused Berlin of using legal tricks to avoid paying compensation for the Nazi occupation of his country.

Greek Prime Minister Seeks War Reparations From Germany

Speaking Tuesday at a parliamentary committee meeting on the subject, Tsipras sought reparations from Germany for destroyed infrastructure, stolen archaeological treasures and "occupation credit" in the 1940s.

Steuern steigen. Öffentliche Ausgaben sinken. Hunderte Milliarden Euro an Schulden drücken.

‘The West is looking for an excuse to attack Syria, but Assad is not giving one’

The Turkish interception of a Syrian civilian jet heading to Damascus from Moscow was yet another attempt to provoke Assad to give the West a reason to strike Syria, Sibel Edmonds of the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition told RT.
RT: There are lots of ways of smuggling weapons – why would Russia even try to send arms into Syria on a commercial flight?
Sibel Edmonds: Look, we started reporting on the preparation by US and NATO and their Turkish partners in southern Turkey starting in May 2011. You are looking at 16 or 17 months ago, the United States, with their base in Turkey, started preparations for war against Syria.

Greece, Germany and the complex issue of war reparations

John P. Anton describes the atrocities of the German occupation in Greece during WWII and underlines the lasting effect this has had on the Hellenic nation
Considerable discussion has been generated recently concerning the problem of war reparations with regard to the destruction the German armies inflicted during WWII on the populations and the lands of the various countries that were occupied. Here we look at the special case of Greece. The Germans occupied Greece from April 1941 to October 1944.
I am not so much concerned with the ongoing legal disputes surrounding the unresolved issue about the war reparations that Germany still owes Greece. Rather, my interest is related to an unacknowledged and serious part of the damages that the German occupation brought upon the country as a result of the brief yet catastrophic presence of Hitler's armies in the land.
More precisely, I am raising the broader issue about the breadth of the catastrophes the German occupation forces brought to the status of Greece's culture, beyond the already listed types of damage to the land, the people, and the official institutions of the country.
