Syria death toll rises to 582, EU to send rescue teams only to Turkey

Syrian state media reported have reported that at least 371 people were killed and 1089 were injured in government-controlled areas.

The death toll in Syria’s terrorist opposition-held northwest also rose to 211 and 419 others injured, the "White Helmets" rescue team said in a tweet.

The European Union is sending rescue teams and preparing further help for Turkey after a major earthquake hit Turkey and Syria, the bloc’s crisis management commissioner said Monday.

“Teams from the Netherlands and Romania are already on their way,” with the EU’s Emergency Response Coordination Center overseeing their deployment, commissioner Janez Lenarcic tweeted.

  1. China has said it is willing to provide humanitarian emergency aid to earthquake-struck Turkey and Syria.

China expressed condolences and concern for the loss of life and property, and is in communications with both Turkey and Syria, a spokesperson from China International Development Cooperation Agency said.

  2. The total death toll from an earthquake that rocked southeast Turkey and northern Syria on Monday could reach as high as 10,000 people, the US Geological Survey (USGS) has estimated.
