EU fuel sanctions have nothing to do with Russian air group in Syria

Restrictions inside the European Union on supplies of fuel to Syria have nothing to do with the air group of the Russian Aerospace Forces in that country, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in comments on Reuters reports about alleged breach of EU sanctions by Russian tankers delivering jet fuel for Russian air group in Syria.

"Intrigues, restrictions and sanctions on fuel supplies to the Syrian Arab Republic in effect inside the European Union, don’t concern the air group of the Russian Aerospace Forces to put it mildly," he said.

"I would like to remind British journalists that Russia is one of the leading oil producing countries of the world. That is why we don’t have and don’t envisage any deficit of jet fuel for the Russian Aerospace Forces, all the more when it concerns fight against international terrorism," the statement said.
