Jordan, Palestinians discuss 'actions' to take if US embassy moved to Jerusalem

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan's King Abdullah II on Sunday discussed "actions" that could be taken should US President Donald Trump follow through with his promise to relocate the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Wafa news agency said that the two leaders debated repercussions of the possible move, and that Abbas expressed hope that the Trump administration would not follow through. They noted that they would need to coordinate with the new administration and congress to clarify such repercussions.

"We hope for two things from the new US administration," Abbas said, according to Wafa. "Firstly to stop talking about moving the embassy to Jerusalem, and the second thing is to engage in serious negotiations between us and the Israelis to reach a political solution. This is the best thing for us, for the Israelis and the whole region."

Abbas added that if the embassy is relocated, he and King Abdullah have agreed on a series of actions to take, however, he did not elaborate on what this actions would be.
