US Democratic congresswoman : There is no difference between 'moderate' rebels and al-Qaeda or the ISIS

Tulsi Gabbard
United States Congresswoman and Democratic Party member Tulsi Gabbard on Wednesday revealed that she held a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during a trip to Syria to learn about the conflict in that country.

Gabbard, who served in the Iraq war with the US army, said she had not planned to meet the Syrian leader, but that she was "given the opportunity" and decided that it was "important to take it".

The congresswoman also urged the new US government to stop providing support to the factions opposed to al-Assad, which she described as "terrorists".

"The US must stop supporting terrorists who are destroying Syria and her people. The US and other countries fueling this war must stop immediately. We must allow the Syrian people to try to recover from this terrible war," Gabbard said in her statement.

Gabbard told local media that the main groups fighting in Syria against al-Assad are the Islamic State and the al-Nusra Front - a former al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria - and said that other factions are fighting with them or under their command.

"There is no difference between 'moderate' rebels and al-Qaeda or the IS - they are all the same," Gabbard added.

  1. Speaking on the House floor on September 13, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard accused the Trump administration of protecting al-Qaeda terrorists in Idlib. According to the congresswoman, this amounts to the betrayal of the American people and victims of al-Qaeda's 9/11 attacks in the US.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) called out President Donald Trump and Vice President Pence for allegedly protecting al-Qaeda* in Idlib, Syria, while speaking in the House on September 13.

"Two days ago, President Trump and Vice President Pence delivered solemn speeches about the attacks on 9/11, talking about how much they care about the victims of al-Qaeda's attack on our country. But, they are now standing up to protect the 20,000 to 40,000 al-Qaeda and other jihadist forces in Syria, and threatening Russia, Syria, and Iran, with military force if they dare attack these terrorists," the congresswoman stressed.
