Russia to Continue Supporting Syria in War on Terror: Peskov

Russia will continue supporting the Syrian government in the fight against terrorism, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stressed.

In a statement to journalists on Wednesday, Peskov said that Russia and its Armed Forces will continue supporting the anti-terrorist operation against terrorists carried out by the Syrian Arab Republic's army regardless attempts by western countries to accuse the Syrian army of using chemical weapons.

On Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Syrian Air Force has destroyed a warehouse in Idlib province where chemical weapons were being produced and stockpiled before being shipped to Iraq.  The strike targeted a major terrorists' ammunition depot east of the town of Khan Sheikhoun,  clarified the ministry, according to Russian media.

According to Spunik, Peskov said that Russia will present Russian Defense Ministry's data on an airstrike on warehouse where chemical weapons were produced in Syria at the UN Security Council.

"As for Kremlin's plans, the plan is to continue the consistent line of the decisive fight against terrorism, which the Russian president has been conducting for years. We have repeatedly said that we lack international cooperation; and that happens not due to our fault. But despite this, Russia is determined to continue its efforts to combat terrorism," Peskov added.

Kremlin believes "apocalyptic musings" about potential Western airstrikes against Syrian army forces positions following the alleged chemical attack in Syria's Idlib are unacceptable.

In 2013, the Syrian authorities agreed to transfer its stockpiled chemical weapons under international control for their subsequent destruction in order to prevent them from becoming available to militants operating in the country.
