Russia’s defense ministry recalls chief military envoy to NATO. - Anatoly Antonov, Deputy Defense Minister

Russian defense ministry recalls chief military envoy to NATO for consultations, says defense minister deputy Anatoly Antonov. This is done with regard to NATO bloc statements about suspension of cooperation with Russia over Ukraine developments, Antonov adds, as reported by Itar-Tass agency.

NATO decision to suspend cooperation with Russia nullifies results of joint work in recent years and could have negative consequences for European security, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said Thursday.

"We hope that Brussels thoroughly assessed the consequences of this step for security in the Euro-Atlantic region," Antonov said in a statement.

NATO foreign ministers announced the decision to suspend all practical civilian and military cooperation with Russia at a meeting in Brussels on April 1. The Alliance also said it would revise its military strategies in light of the Ukrainian crisis and build up defenses of its East European members. The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier described NATO's moves as 'Cold War-style sword swinging.'
