Illegal oil traffic across the Syrian-Turkish border is still observed, but it has decreased significantly after the operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.
"We are observing the ongoing traffic across it [the Turkish border] in both directions," Lavrov said. "However, after our Aerospace Forces initiated the operations to terminate the illegal traffic, in particular, of oil and oil products from Syria, from the areas controlled by ISIS [former name of the Islamic State terrorist group outlawed in Russia] to Turkey, this traffic has decreased substantially."
"By the way, after our Aerospace Forces paid such specially emphasized attention to this problem in their actions, various members of the US-led coalition responded to this," Lavrov noted. "In general, this flow has not run dry altogether, but it has decreased considerably."
