Popular Uprising against Forced Recruitment by SDF in Northern Syria

People in a town and several villages in Northeastern Aleppo took to the streets, opposing forced recruitment by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), militant-affiliated websites reported on Monday.
The websites reported that people in the town of Manbij and several villages demonstrated against forced recruitment by the SDF in the region.


The shops and businesses in the region were also closed to oppose the SDF's move, the websites reported.

The websites further said that following the strikes, demonstrations and tensions in the region, the SDF threatened Manbij's resident that it will arrest women as recruits if men do not obey the forced recruitment rule approved by the Kurdish Forces Legislative Council.

An Arab media outlet reported on Wednesday that hundreds of young people in Northeastern Aleppo that had been arrested by the SDF under a recruitment plan were freed after a popular uprising in the region.

The Arabic-language al-Manar news network reported that the SDF that had arrested hundreds of young people in Manbij and its surroundings in Northeastern Aleppo in under a recruitment plan were forced to free them.

Al-Manar further said that the total number of arrested people stood at 600, adding that popular demonstration against the SDF's move forced the latter to release the young people.
