Israeli attack helicopters hit targets in Syria

Israel hit targets in Syria on Monday after mortars exploded on the Israeli side of the Golan Heights, most likely a result of errant fire from the Syrian war raging across the border. No one was injured and no damage was caused.

The air force “successfully targeted the source of the fire in Syria”, it said, warning that it holds the Damascus government responsible for any fire that hits Israel.

On July 4, the Israeli army said it had attacked two Syrian targets on the Golan after stray fire damaged the security fence.

And on July 17, Israeli said its military fired two Patriot missiles at a drone that infiltrated from Syria.

Israel has sought to avoid being drawn into Syria’s complex war which is now in its sixth year, but it has attacked Syrian military targets when fire from the conflict spills over.

Israel seized 1,200 square kilometres (460 square miles) of the Golan Heights from Syria in the Six-Day War of 1967 and later annexed it in a move never recognised by the international community.

Earlier Israeli Merkava main battle tank spotted at the Golan Heights. The Golan Heights, a rocky plateau in south-western Syria, has a political and strategic significance which belies its size.

  1. General command of the army and armed forces announced on Monday that the Zionist enemy launched two missiles, at 7.30 P.M from two drone planes which targeted one of the residential buildings in the workers’ neighborhood in al-Baath city in Qunaitera, causing material damages to the place...

“This flagrant aggression comes in the framework of the direct, clear support by Israel to the terrorist organizations and a desperate attempt to raise their collapsed morals due to the big losses they receive at the hands of the Syrian army soldiers and popular defense groups,” the army’s general command said in a statement.

It added the aggression will not affect our stance in confronting and pursuing the tools of the Zionist enemy, the terrorist groups, which carry out Israel’s goals in the region.
