South Korea criticises Apple, Google over naming of disputed islands

South Korea has criticized Apple and Google for inconsistencies over the naming of a group of disputed islets, in their mapping services. Apple’s Korean-language map retains the Korean name "Dokdo". But its Japanese service uses the Japanese name, "Takeshima".
Meanwhile, Google has carried out the same move, but also replaced "Dokdo" with a third name for non-Korean and Japanese browsers.
The third title, "Liancourt Rocks," derives from the name of a French whaling ship that was nearly shipwrecked on the islets in 1849.
South Korea’s Foreign Ministry says the decision is unacceptable, and is demanding that both companies reverse the decision. Many South Korean people have echoed the Foreign Ministry’s stance.
