The Brazilian government will deploy National Public Security Force
in five cities hosting the FIFA football tournament in an effort to
contain the ongoing protests across the country.
The announcement by the Brazilian Justice Ministry comes after a day of violent clashes between protesters and riot police.
The ministry decided to deploy the joint federal police force on Wednesday in response to violent rioting across the country. The troops will reportedly be tasked with mediating the conflict, rather than punishing protesters.

The cost of hosting the World Cup in Brazil is one of the key

a major sporting event.

Tuesday, saying that her government is looking to the people and
is willing to act on the demonstrators’ grievances. "The size
of yesterday's demonstrations shows the energy of our democracy,
the strength of the voice of the streets and the civility of our
population,” the president said in a televised address.
She went on to condemn the incidents of violence, and called on the demonstrators to protest peacefully.

La présidente du Brésil, Dilma Rousseff, a convoqué une réunion de crise avec ses ministres les plus proches, vendredi 21 juin, au lendemain d'une journée historique de manifestations dans le pays, selon les sites des trois principaux journaux brésiliens.
Cette réunion, qui n'a pu immédiatement être confirmée par l'AFP auprès de la présidence, aura lieu à 09h30 (14h30) à Brasilia, selon les sites de O'Globo, Folha de Sao Paulo et O Estado de Sao Paulo.
Le ministre de la Justice, Eduardo Cardoso, participera notamment à la réunion, selon le site de la Folha, assurant que les autorités de Brasilia ont été "effrayées" et "choquées" par l'attaque du ministère des Affaires étrangères dans la soirée de jeudi par un groupe de manifestants, repoussée de justesse par la police.

ReplyDeleteIn Griechenland hat sich die Regierungskrise weiter zugespitzt, weil die drei Koalitionsparteien Neue Demokratie (Konservative), Pasok (Sozialisten) und Demokratische Linke ihren Streit über die Schließung des Staatssenders ERT nicht beilegen konnten. Auch bei dem dritten Krisengipfel binnen vier Tagen fanden die Partner keine gemeinsame Linie.
Knackpunkt ist die Frage, in welcher Form der vom konservativen Regierungschef Antonis Samaras im Alleingang abgeschaltete Sender ERT wieder den Betrieb aufnehmen kann. Brazil: clashes in Belo Horizonte as protests continue...
ReplyDeleteNew clashes have taken place in Brazil despite President Dilma Rousseff's attempt to respond to protesters' demands and halt the violence.
Trouble was reported in Belo Horizonte and Salvador, the two cities hosting Confederations Cup matches on Saturday.
Largely peaceful protests continued in dozens of Brazilian cities on Saturday, including Sao Paulo.
President Rousseff announced several reforms on Friday as she tried to bring an end to days of demonstrations.
The demonstrations began over transport fare rises in Sao Paulo, but quickly grew into nationwide rallies encompassing a raft of issues, from corruption and the poor quality of public services to the cost of hosting the current Confederations Cup and next year's Fifa World Cup.

A crowd gathered in the centre of Belo Horizonte on Saturday and marched towards the Mineirao stadium, where Mexico were playing Japan in the Confederations Cup, the eight-team football tournament seen as a curtain-raiser for next year's main event.

Η κυβέρνηση της Βραζιλίας κατέθεσε σήμερα στο Κοινοβούλιο το αίτημα για την διεξαγωγή δημοψηφίσματος που πρότεινε η πρόεδρος Ντίλμα Ρούσεφ, ενόψει των πολιτικών μεταρρυθμίσεων που κατέστη αναγκαίο να δρομολογηθούν σε απάντηση των διαδηλώσεων που οργανώθηκαν σε όλη τη χώρα, με συνθήματα κατά της γενικευμένης διαφθοράς και της κακής άσκησης της πολιτικής.
Η προεδρική πρόταση για δημοψήφισμα παραδόθηκε στον πρόεδρο της Γερουσίας και του Κοινοβουλίου Ρενάν Καλιέιρους από τον υπουργό Ζουζέ Εντουάρντου Καρντόζου και τον αντιπρόεδρο της κυβέρνησης Μισέλ Τέμερ, μεταδίδει το επίσημο πρακτορείο ειδήσεων Senado.
«Ο Καλιέιρους ανακοίνωσε πως θα πράξει τα δέοντα ώστε οι ενδεχόμενες αλλαγές που θα προκύψουν από το δημοψήφισμα να αρχίζουν να εφαρμόζονται από τον Οκτώβριο του 2014», (συνταγματική) ημερομηνία των επόμενων βουλευτικών εκλογών, προσθέτει το πρακτορείο, επισημαίνοντας πως αυτό θα συναρτηθεί από τη βούληση των Γερουσιαστών.
Το μήνυμα της Ρούσεφ που συνοδεύει το αίτημα για δημοψήφισμα στρέφεται γύρω από πέντε σημεία, που κατά τον Καρντόζου, αποβλέπουν σε μία πολιτική μεταρρύθμιση: την χρηματοδότηση των προεκλογικών εκστρατειών, τον εκλογικό νόμο, την διατήρηση των προνομίων των Γερουσιαστών, τους κανόνες λειτουργίας των κομματικών συμμαχιών και τον ισχύοντα κανονισμό για την μυστική ψήφο που, όμως, ενδεχομένως να καταργηθεί.
Φιλοδοξία της Ρούσεφ είναι, τόσο το δημοψήφισμα, όσο και η πολιτική μεταρρύθμιση, να πραγματωθούν πριν τις βουλευτικές εκλογές του Οκτωβρίου 2014.

Huelga general en Brasil contra la precarización laboral y por la mejora de los servicios públicos ...
ReplyDeleteLa jornada de protestas y huelgas en todo Brasil convocada para hoy por las centrales sindicales comenzó con bloqueos en 11 importantes rutas y sin transporte público en algunas ciudades.
Los manifestantes, en su mayoría portando banderas de sindicatos y partidos políticos de izquierda, bloquearon desde el comienzo del día once carreteras en cinco estados, incluyendo la Vía Dutra, la autopista más importante del país que une Río de Janeiro con San Pablo.
También fue interrumpido el camino que comunica San Pablo con las ciudades del interior paulista y la vía que da acceso al puerto de Santos, la mayor terminal marítima de América latina, consignó la agencia de noticias EFE.
El sistema público de transportes opera normalmente en San Pablo y Río de Janeiro por orden judicial, pero los conductores de colectivos pararon en ciudades como Porto Alegre, Vitoria, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Manaos y Santos, y Porto Alegre y Belo Horizonte amanecieron sin el servicio de trenes urbanos.
El llamado Día Nacional de Luchas fue convocado por los sindicatos para adherirse a las protestas por mejores servicios públicos que sacudieron a Brasil en las tres últimas semanas de junio y para presentar las reivindicaciones propias de los trabajadores.

Brazilian president announces spending increase on health, education...
ReplyDeleteBRASILIA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff Wednesday announced a spending increase of 3 billion Brazilian reals (1.325 billion U.S. dollars) for cities to bolster healthcare and education, two public services that were the cause of massive protests last month.
She made the announcement during the 16th Rally for Municipality Defense in Brasilia, where 4,000 prefects (local authorities) from around the country took part.
The increase will be doled out in two parts, the first in August and the second in April 2014, and is earmarked to pay for doctors and teachers, and other expenses in local healthcare and education services.
The measure is one of the several the government is taking in response to the wave of protests that rocked Brazil in the past few weeks, where more than a million Brazilians demanded better public services and an end to corruption.
Rousseff also announced an increase in the so-called Basic Healthcare Floor that brings the yearly total spent on the program to 600 million reals (265 million dollars).
The government will additionally invest 3.2 billion reals (some 1.325 billion dollars) to build 2,000 daycare centers, she said.
This is in addition to the plans to increase investment in various sectors including healthcare announced by the president on Monday, who said then the government is investing 7.4 billion Brazilian reals (some 3.274 billion U.S. dollars) to build new hospitals, as well as changing and buying new equipment, and next year it would invest another 5.5 billion reals (some 2.433 billion dollars) for new health units.
However, local authorities at the gathering complained that the government has failed to respond to their call for a 2.5 percent readjustment in the Municipalities Participation Fund (FPM).

'Day of Struggle': Protesters block ports, highways across Brazil as unions aim to take control...
ReplyDeleteRiot police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse masked protesters in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, as demonstrations continued throughout Brazil. Unions are demanding better work conditions and tougher government measures to tackle inflation.
Tens of thousands of union members marched throughout the country, blocking roads and grinding traffic to a crawl in dozens of cities.
Bus drivers, metal workers and other unionized workers took to the streets as part of a one-day strike. Labor leaders are pushing for workers’ rights to take center stage in the national debate which emerged after huge protests rocked the country last month, Reuters reported.
Brazil’s unions, which represent around one-tenth of the country’s workforce, appear to be trying to give the protests direction while they fight for political and social goals.
Union strikers and other demonstrators partially or completely blocked 40 interstate and intercity highways across 14 states during Thursday’s “Day of Struggle,” AP reported.
