L’évolution de la situation minute par minute.La dispersion sanglante des camps de manifestants au Caire réclamant le retour du président déchu Mohamed Morsi et les violences à travers l’Égypte ont fait mercredi au moins 525 morts, en grande majorité des civils. Plus tôt dans la matinée, le ministère de la Santé avait fait état de 421 civils tués à travers le pays, tandis que le ministère de l’Intérieur a fait état de la mort de 43 policiers. Il s’agit de la journée la plus meurtrière de l’histoire récente de l’Égypte.
Et ce bilan pourrait cependant être plus élevé car sur la seule place Rabaa al-Adawiya, principal point de rassemblement des manifestants réclamant le retour du président islamiste déposé le 3 juillet par l’armée, un journaliste de l’AFP a dénombré 124 cadavres d’hommes tués pour la plupart par balles.
À la suite des violences, l’état d’urgence a été décrété pour un mois et un couvre-feu est imposé dans la moitié du pays de 19 heures à 06 heures.

Einen Tag nach der gewaltsamen Räumung ihrer Protestlager haben Anhänger der ägyptischen Muslimbruderschaft in Kairo und Alexandria neue Protestmärsche organisiert. Islamistische Demonstranten stürmten den Dienstsitz des Gouverneurs der zum Großraum Kairo gehörenden Provinz Gizeh und steckten ihn in Brand, wie das staatliche Fernsehen berichtete. Kirchen und Besitztümer von Christen wurden abermals zu Zielen von Gewalt. Aus Sicherheitskreisen verlautete, in Abanub in der Provinz Assiut sei eine koptische Kirche von Extremisten niedergebrannt worden. Der Feuerwehr sei es nicht gelungen, die Kirche zu retten. Ein Polizist starb in der Stadt Al Arisch auf der Sinai-Halbinsel, als Extremisten am Mittag das Feuer auf den Offiziersclub der Polizei eröffneten.
Die Muslimbrüder wollen nach der blutigen Räumung ihrer beiden Camps in Kairo, bei der mehr als 500 Menschen getötet worden waren, ihre Proteste weiter fortsetzen. Die Bewegung werde nicht ruhen, bis „der Militärputsch“ gegen den von ihnen unterstützten Präsidenten Mursi der Vergangenheit angehöre, teilte ein Sprecher am Donnerstag über den Kurznachrichtendienst Twitter mit. O embaixador, que reiterou estar em contactado com todos os portugueses presentes no país, disse que "não há qualquer impedimento à circulação de pessoas ou automóveis" neste momento.
No entanto, foi convocada uma manifestação da Irmandade Muçulmana para a tarde. US, Egypt cooperation cannot continue while civilians killed: Obama...
ReplyDeleteU.S. President Barack Obama condemned Aug. 15 the bloody crackdown on the supporters of the toppled President Mohamed Morsi in Egypt, warning the interim rulers that the alliance between both countries would result damaged as civilians are continuing being targeted by the security forces.
“Our traditional cooperation with Egypt cannot continue when civilians are being killed in the streets and rights are being rolled back,” President Obama said during a press conference in Martha’s Vineyard where he is on vacation, while he announced that the United States had informed Egyptian authorities it had canceled a joint military drill named "Bright Star" that had been scheduled for next month.
The drill, dating back to 1981, is seen as a cornerstone of U.S.-Egyptian military relations and began after the Camp David Peace Accords between Egypt and Israel.
Obama also described the crackdown as a “serious blow” to reconciliation between parties, adding that the people of Egypt deserve better than the rampant violence in the country.
"The Egyptian people deserve better than what we've seen over the last several days. And to the Egyptian people, let me say: the cycle of violence and escalation needs to stop."
Obama said that the state of emergency declared by the interim government on Aug. 14 should be lifted, but also stressed that the U.S. does not take sides with any party or political figure in Egypt.

Obama condemns Egypt over violence, cancels joint military exercise...
ReplyDeleteCAIRO – President Barack Obama strongly condemned Egypt’s interim government Thursday, saying the United States was canceling a planned joint military operation in protest over violent clashes that left at least 525 dead.
He also called on Egypt’s interim government, which took power after the July 3 military ouster of elected president Mohammed Morsi, to cancel the month-long state of emergency it imposed after Wednesday's bloodshed.
"We deplore violence against civilians," he told reporters in Martha's Vineyard, where he is on a working vacation.
Obama said Operation Bright Star – a joint biennial military exercise that had been due to take place in the Sinai region next month - would not now happen, and hinted further steps could be taken. "The interior ministry has instructed all forces to use live ammunition to counter any attacks on government buildings or forces," the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The announcement comes after hundreds of supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi attacked the local government offices in Giza and set them ablaze. Protesters have attacked police stations and other official buildings across the country over the past two days.
There were also reports of clashes in Ma'adi, a neighbourhood in southern Cairo, between local residents and Morsi supporters, with witnesses saying both sides exchanged gunfire.

Η ανακοίνωση αυτή δημοσιοποιήθηκε μερικές ώρες αφού ισλαμιστές διαδηλωτές πυρπόλησαν ένα κυβερνητικό κτίριο σε ένα προάστιο του Καΐρου και την επομένη της αιματηρής επιχείρησης καταστολής των διαδηλωτών με εκατοντάδες νεκρούς.
Η κυβέρνηση της Αιγύπτου παράλληλα διεμήνυσε ότι είναι αποφασισμένη να αντιμετωπίσει «τρομοκρατικές ενέργειες» στις οποίες προβαίνουν οι Αδελφοί Μουσουλμάνοι.
Κυβερνητική ανακοίνωσε υποστήριξε ότι βρίσκεται σε εξέλιξη «ένα εγκληματικό σχέδιο για να καταστραφούν οι πυλώνες του αιγυπτιακού κράτους», πάντως ανέφερε ότι η μεταβατική κυβέρνηση που υποστηρίζει ο στρατός επιζητεί μια «συνεκτική πολιτική διαδικασία», ανοικτή σε όποιον δεν ενέχεται στη βία.

The curfew will start as previously announced on Wednesday at 7 p.m. (1700 GMT), not 9 p.m., but will still last until 6 a.m., a cabinet statement said on Thursday.

• La situation reste sous tension en Egypte au lendemain d'une journée sanglante, après la dispersion des manifestations pro-Morsi. Plusieurs chefs d'Etat dont Barack Obama et François Hollande ont condamné la répression.
• Mercredi matin, les policiers ont pénétré sur les places Rabaa al-Adawiya et Nahda, où des milliers d’islamistes étaient barricadés depuis un mois et demi avec femmes et enfants pour réclamer le retour de du président destitué et arrêté par l’armée le 3 juillet.
• L’opération, très violente, a fait au moins 535 morts civils et 43 chez les policiers selon un bilan établi jeudi matin. Un caméraman de la chaîne Sky News a été tué. Le bilan sera sans doute plus lourd.
• Les affrontements entre pro et anti-Morsi ont déjà fait plus de 250 morts depuis fin juin, essentiellement des manifestants islamistes. Le vice-président Mohamed ElBaradei a démissionné.
20 heures. Un nouveau bilan fait état 578 morts mercredi dans le pays, dont 535 civils, annonce le ministère de la Santé. Détaillant ce bilan, le ministère a précisé que 228 personnes avaient péri sur la seule place Rabaa al-Adawiya, principal point de rassemblement occupé depuis près d’un mois et demi par les partisans du président islamiste Mohamed Morsi destitué et arrêté par l’armée le 3 juillet.
En outre, 90 ont péri dans la dispersion de l’autre sit-in pro-Morsi au Caire. Selon les autorités, 43 policiers ont également été tués mercredi dans la journée la plus meurtrière depuis la chute de Moubarak.
19h55. La France, le Royaume-Uni et l’Australie ont demandé conjointement une réunion d’urgence du Conseil de sécurité de l’ONU sur la situation en Egypte, ont indiqué jeudi des diplomates. ReplyDeleteDie Freitagsgebete münden in einem Blutbad. Wieder sterben bei den Protesten der Muslimbrüder unzählige Menschen. Ägypten sucht nach einem Retter – während es sich für den Bürgerkrieg rüstet.
Die ägyptischen Muslimbrüder hatten zu einem "Freitag der Wut" aufgerufen und es wurde ein Tag der Gewalt und Trauer. Sie scheinen zu allem bereit, um den gestürzten Präsidenten Mohammed Mursi wieder in sein Amt zurück zu bringen. Nach der gewaltsamen Räumung der beiden Protestlager der Islamisten am Nahda-Platz und an der Rabaa-al-Adawiya Moschee kam es zu Straßenschlachten und Feuergefechten, die nach Angaben des Gesundheitsministeriums das Leben von mehr als 578 Menschen gekostet und zu weit mehr als 3000 Verletzten geführt haben.
Die Muslimbrüder gehen von Tausenden Toten aus und rächten sich grausam: In Kairo, in Alexandra und sämtlichen Provinztstädten zündeten sie Kirchen, koptische Schulen, Büchereien und Privathäuser an. Viele Christen starben. Das war am Mittwoch. Am Donnerstag trugen sie ihre Toten zu Grabe.

Il est 13 heures, ce vendredi, à la mosquée Sayeda Zeinab. Le prêche résonne dans les rues avoisinantes avec une intensité particulière. La voix brisée de l'imam donne le ton de la journée. Vingt-huit marches doivent converger vers la place Ramsès, ont annoncé les Frères musulmans, en réponse au massacre du 14 août, qui a fait plus de 600 morts lors de la dispersion des sit-in des Frères. Depuis deux jours, les rues du Caire sont vides. La ville retient son souffle pour cette journée d'affrontements qui promet d'être longue. Muslimbrüder rufen zu einer Woche der Proteste auf...
ReplyDeleteTrotz Ausgangssperre sind in Ägypten Zehntausende auf die Straße gegangen, viele kamen durch Schüsse ums Leben. Mursis Anhänger wollen von nun an täglich protestieren.
Zu Zehntausenden sind die Menschen in Ägypten dem Aufruf der islamistischen Muslim-Bruderschaft gefolgt und haben am Freitag trotz Ausgangssperre gegen die Absetzung des gestürzten Präsidenten Mohammed Mursi protestiert. Dabei kam es zu gewalttätigen Ausschreitungen, es fielen Schüsse, die Polizei setzte Tränengas ein. Nach Angaben der Sicherheitskräfte starben im ganzen Land mindestens 80 Menschen, etwa 300 wurden verletzt. Die Islamisten riefen zu einer ganzen Woche von Protesten auf.
Die meisten Opfer gab es beim von den Islamisten ausgerufenen "Freitag des Zorns" in Kairo. Am Ramses-Platz, der mittlerweile zum Zentrum des Protests geworden ist, seit Soldaten den Tahrir-Platz abgeriegelt haben, versammelten sich nach den Freitagsgebeten etwa 20.000 Mursi-Anhänger. Einige von ihnen trugen Maschinengewehre. Nach Angaben der Islamisten erschoss die Polizei auf dem Platz 45 Demonstranten, Sicherheitskreise sprachen von zwölf Toten. Sie seien getötet worden, als Demonstranten eine in der Nähe gelegene Polizeistation attackierten. Der Fernsehsender Al-Jazeera zeigte Bilder eines Hauses am Platz, das in drei Stockwerken lichterloh brannte.
Bewaffnete Bewohner der Viertel, durch die die Islamisten liefen, bauten Kontrollposten auf und lieferten sich Schusswechsel mit den Mursi-Anhängern. Über den Dächern von Kairo kreisten Polizei-Hubschrauber. Am Abend nahm die Polizei nach eigenen Angaben Islamisten fest, die in ihren Autos Waffen zum Ramses-Platz bringen wollten.
Auch in Alexandria und Tanta kam es zu Zusammenstößen zwischen der Polizei und Mursi-Anhängern. In Al-Arisch im Nord-Sinai griffen Islamisten öffentliche Gebäude mit Handfeuerwaffen und Panzerfäusten an. Der deutsche Außenminister fand überraschend selbstkritische Worte: „In jedem Fall ist es auch eine Niederlage der internationalen Diplomatie.“ Es sei nicht gelungen, ein Blutbad in Ägypten zu verhindern, sagte Guido Westerwelle am Donnerstagabend im ZDF. Nachdem die westliche Staatengemeinschaft nach der Absetzung Präsident Muhammad Mursis - von einem offenbaren Lapsus Kerrys abgesehen - eine Qualifizierung der Ereignisse in Kairo vermieden hatte und das Militär zu bewegen suchte, schnell zu demokratischen Verfahren zurückzukehren, steht sie nun nach der Gewalteskalation einigermaßen ratlos da.
Westerwelle führte in den vergangenen 48 Stunden mehrere Telefonate - mit dem amerikanischen Außenminister John Kerry, der EU-Außenbeauftragten Catherine Ashton und seinem französischen Kollegen Laurent Fabius. Er wolle in seinen Gesprächen die nächsten Schritte abstimmen, sagte er. Die Ereignisse könnten „nicht ohne Konsequenzen“ bleiben; er wollte aber noch nicht in Details gehen. Regierungssprecher Steffen Seibert fügte hinzu, es seien gravierende Ereignisse von erheblicher Tragweite, man könne daher nicht „zur Tagesordnung“ übergehen. Auch er wollte den Abstimmungen nicht vorgreifen. ROMA - Nuove proteste contro la deposizione del presidente Mohammed Morsi e ancora sangue in Egitto, nel giorno della "collera islamica". La polizia ha aperto il fuoco contro i manifestanti, sparando anche dagli elicotteri. Il network egiziano di al Jazeera è stato oscurato. Dopo l'escalation di violenza si muove la Ue. Intanto la Farnesina sconsiglia i viaggi in tutto il Paese.
Gli scontri a piazza Ramses. Il centro degli ultimi scontri al Cairo è piazza Ramses, a circa 2 km da Tahrir. I militari hanno chiuso il ponte 6 ottobre, una delle principali arterie della capitale, e altre strade di accesso al centro. Gli anti-Morsi hanno invitato a presidiare "ogni angolo" della città e annunciato che si confronteranno con i Fratelli. I responsabili di una clinica nei pressi di piazza Ramses hanno lanciato un sos ai medici del Cairo: «La struttura è piena di vittime, ci servono aiuto e medicinali». La tv di Stato racconta di una jeep «arrivata a piazza Ramses, sventolando la bandiera di al Qaida. I manifestanti pro-Morsi hanno inneggiato ai jihadisti, che avevano il volto coperto». I militari avrebbero aperto il fuoco sui dimostranti sparando da un elicottero che stazionava sulla piazza.

Amnistia Internacional reclama investigação aos confrontos sangrentos...
ReplyDeleteA Amnistia Internacional lançou um apelo para que seja realizada uma investigação "completa e imparcial" aos confrontos dos últimos dias no Egito, considerando que a resposta das autoridades foi "desproporcionada".
A organização de defesa dos direitos humanos, sedeada em Londres, pretende que especialistas das Nações Unidas sejam autorizados a investigar a crise no Egito.
A Amnistia Internacional constatou no terreno que as forças de segurança fizeram uso de "armas letais injustificadas" e que não respeitaram a promessa de permitir que os feridos fossem retirados em total segurança.
"Segundo os primeiros testemunhos e outros elementos de prova que recolhemos, parece que não há dúvida de que as forças de segurança agiram com grande desrespeito pela vida humana e que é necessário iniciar com urgência investigações completas, independentes e imparciais", declarou o diretor do programa Médio Oriente e Norte de África da Aministia, Philip Luther, citado pela agência AFP.
O responsável observou que, "quando alguns manifestantes recorreram à violência, a resposta das autoridades foi bastante desproporcionada, aparentemente sem distinguir entre manifestantes violentos e não violentos".
"As forças de segurança recorreram à força letal quando não era estritamente necessário para proteger vidas ou evitar ferimentos graves, o que constitui uma violação clara da legislação e das normas internacionais", concluiu.

Al momento non ci sarebbero state violenze.
Proprio piazza Ramses è stata ieri teatro di scontri tra forze armate e manifestanti in cui hanno perso la vita tra le 40 e le 80 persone secondo fonti sanitarie. Caos in tutto il Paese: la polizia ha arrestato oltre mille sostenitori dei Fratelli Musulmani, la metà dei quali nella capitale egiziana.
Paura anche nel Mar Rosso, in cui sono presenti numerosi turisti stranieri. La Farnesina ha diramato un comunicato in cui sconsigliava viaggi in tutto il Paese e consigliava agli italiani già in loco di non uscire dai resort. Questa mattina gli aerei in partenza da Fiumicino erano vuoti. ReplyDeleteΤην πτώχευσή της ανακοίνωσε η ουγγρική τουριστική επιχείρηση Best Reisen Ltd, που ειδικευόταν στις χώρες της Βόρειας Αφρικής, ενώ εκατοντάδες πελάτες της βρίσκονται αυτή τη στιγμή σε θέρετρα στην Ερυθρά Θάλασσα της Αιγύπτου.
Η τουριστική επιχείρηση, μια από τις μεγαλύτερες του κλάδου στην Ουγγαρία, υπέστη μεγάλες ζημίες εξαιτίας των πολιτικών κρίσεων στην Αίγυπτο και στην Τυνησία, στις οποίες πρόσφερε πακέτα διακοπών. Ανακοίνωσε πάντως ότι διαθέτει ένα αποθεματικό ύψους 4,34 εκατ. ευρώ, το οποίο θα συμβάλλει ώστε να καλυφθεί τουλάχιστον ένα μέρος του κόστους της επιστροφής των ταξιδιωτών και της αποζημίωσης των πελατών της.
Η εταιρεία, η οποία λειτουργούσε από το 1995, ανέφερε σε ανακοίνωση που δημοσίευσε στη σελίδα της στο Facebook ότι τα οικονομικά προβλήματα με τα οποία βρέθηκε αντιμέτωπη προκλήθηκαν από τη μείωση της ζήτησης και τις μεγάλες ζημίες που υπέστη εξαιτίας των κρίσεων στην Αίγυπτο και την Τυνησία, τους βασικούς προορισμούς για τους οποίους πρόσφερε πακέτα διακοπών.
"Υποστήκαμε ιδιαίτερα μεγάλες ζημίες λόγω της Αιγύπτου και της Τυνησίας, καθώς αυτοί οι δύο βορειοαφρικανικοί προορισμοί οι οποίοι (. . .) ήταν η πηγή του μεγαλύτερου μέρους των εσόδων μας μαστίζονται από πολιτική κρίση από τον Ιανουάριο του 2011", αναφέρει η ανακοίνωση της επιχείρησης, προσθέτοντας ότι δεν μπορεί πλέον να εξασφαλίσει τους "χρηματοοικονομικούς όρους για τη συνέχιση της λειτουργίας" της.
Η εταιρία δεν διευκρίνισε πόσοι τουρίστες έχουν ταξιδέψει μέσω αυτής στην Αίγυπτο και άλλους προορισμούς, όπως η Τουρκία. Η αντιπρόεδρος της Ένωσης Τουριστικών Επιχειρήσεων της Ουγγαρίας, δήλωσε στο πρακτορείο Ρόιτερς ότι 350 Ούγγροι τουρίστες βρίσκονται αυτή τη στιγμή σε θέρετρα της Ερυθράς Θάλασσας στην Αίγυπτο μέσω της Best Reisen.
Το υπουργείο Εξωτερικών της Ουγγαρίας έχει εκδώσει ταξιδιωτική οδηγία συστήνοντας την αποφυγή των ταξιδιών στην Αίγυπτο, εξαιρουμένων των θερέτρων στην Ερυθρά Θάλασσα, ωστόσο συνιστά και στους εκεί ταξιδιώτες να επιδεικνύουν ιδιαίτερη προσοχή. Ο εκπρόσωπος του ουγγρικού υπουργείου Εξωτερικών δήλωσε ότι η Βουδαπέστη παρακολουθεί στενά την κατάσταση στην Αίγυπτο και προς το παρόν δεν σκοπεύει να μεταβάλει την οδηγία του.

ReplyDeleteΎστερα από συντομότατη συνεδρίαση, αιγυπτιακό δευτεροβάθμιο δικαστήριο διέκοψε σήμερα την πρόοδο της δίκης του πρώην προέδρου Χόσνι Μουμπάρακ καθώς και των δύο γιών του, επειδή για "λόγους ασφάλειας" οι ανωτέρω δεν μπόρεσαν, σήμερα, να φθάσουν στην αίθουσα του δικαστικού μεγάρου στο Κάιρο.
Η επανάληψη της ακροαματικής διαδικασίας αποφασίστηκε από τον πρόεδρο αυτού του δικαστηρίου, τον εφέτη Μαχμούντ αλ Ρασίντι, να γίνει την 25η Αυγούστου.
Είναι η πρώτη φορά, που ο Χόσνι Μουμπάρακ δεν ήταν παρών στη δευτεροβάθμια δίκη του. Κατηγορείται -από κοινού με τους δύο γιούς του, τον Γκαμάλ και τον Αλάα-, για την συνέργια στους θανάτους εκατοντάδων πολιτών, ενώ διαρκούσε η λαϊκή εξέγερση που κορυφώθηκε με την ανατροπή του από το ύπατο αξίωμα, που κατείχε για περισσότερο από 20 έτη.

DeleteLas autoridades judiciales egipcias han ordenado la liberación de Hosni Mubarak, el expresidente encarcelado que fue depuesto por las revueltas de la primavera árabe en febrero de 2011, después de que se haya superado el plazo de prisión preventiva en un caso de corrupción, según informa The New York Times. De todos modos, las autoridades todavía pueden encontrar el modo de mantenerle bajo arresto.
La liberación del expresidente, en el poder durante tres décadas, introduciría un nuevo elemento de inestabilidad en la crisis política que vive el país. El tres de julio el Ejército depuso mediante un golpe de Estado al primer presidente elegido democráticamente, el islamista Mohamed Morsi. El golpe desató protestas de los Hermanos Musulmanes, que reclaman la restitución de Morsi. Semanas de inestabilidad desembocaron el pasado miércoles 14 de agosto en el desalojo por parte del Ejército de dos campamentos instalados por los islamistas en El Cairo. La represión causó más de 600 víctimas y ha profundizado aún más la división entre los partidarios y los detractores del golpe militar.
Los únicos argumentos legales que justifican la permanencia de Mubarak en prisión dependen de otro caso de corrupción que también será resuelto esta semana. "Todo lo que queda es un proceso administrativo que no debería extenderse más de 48 horas. Debería ser liberado al final de la semana", ha explicado el abogado de Mubarak.
Sobre el expresidente, de 85 años, todavía penden cargos de complicidad en el asesinato de manifestantes durante las protestas de 2011. El rais estuvo en el poder entre 1981, tras el asesinato del presidente Anuar el Sadat en un atentado islamista, y 2011 cuando fue depuesto por el levantamiento popular de amplios sectores de la sociedad egipcia que reclamaban un sistema político abierto, transparente e inclusivo.

El Gobierno egipcio frena la liberación del exdictador Hosni Mubarak...
Delete“Hosni Mubarak será puesto en libertad en las próximas 48 horas”, rezaba una noticia que ha corrido como la pólvora entre las redes sociales egipcias el mediodía del lunes. Sin embargo, pocas horas después, fuentes judiciales desmintieron a la agencia France Presse el bombazo informativo. La liberación del exdictador, depuesto en la revolución egipcia del invierno de 2011, habría sido una poderosa munición para los Hermanos Musulmanes en su guerra contra el nuevo régimen, al que califican de “contrarrevolucionario”. Por esta razón, opinan la mayoría de analistas, el Gobierno hará todo lo posible por evitar la salida de Mubarak de la cárcel.
La noticia se originó a partir de unas declaraciones de Farid al-Dib, el abogado de Mubarak, a la agencia Reuters. “Lo único que falta es un simple procedimiento administrativo que no debería tardar más de 48 horas”, dijo el letrado. Y, en efecto, el octogenario expresidente ha sido puesto en libertad provisional por un caso de corrupción, al superar el plazo máximo de dos años de prisión preventiva que establece la legislación egipcia.
No obstante, desde que se sobrepasó ese plazo la pasada primavera, las autoridades judiciales han ido renovando su detención por periodos de dos semanas para poder interrogarle por otro caso de corrupción. DeleteUn tribunal égyptien a accepté mercredi la demande de libération conditionnelle du président Hosni Moubarak, renversé par une révolte populaire début 2011, dans le cadre d’une affaire d’enrichissement illicite.
Acquitté des accusations de corruption, l’ancien président égyptien renversé en 2011 avait fait, via son avocat, la demande de libération.« Tout ce qu’il reste, c’est une simple procédure administrative », avait précisé son avocat ce lundi. Ce mercredi, un tribunal égyptien a accepté la demande de libération conditionnelle du président.
Il n’était pas clair dans l’immédiat si Moubarak serait remis en liberté. Jusqu’à présent, de nouvelles accusations sont apparues à chaque fois qu’il devait bénéficier d’une libération conditionnelle, permettant le maintien en détention du président déchu. Lundi, le New York Times avait précisé que même si les autorités judiciaires égyptiennes ordonnaient la libération de Moubarak, il restait « possible que les autorités trouvent d’autres moyens pour le garder en détention ». DeleteOggi la Corte Penale del Cairo ha dato conferma alle sue dichiarazioni, accogliendo l'istanza di scarcerazione per l'ex presidente deposto dalla Primavera del 2011.
L'ex leader egiziano potrebbe essere rilasciato già domani, dopo che sono cadute le maggiori accuse per corruzione avanzate nei suoi confronti, facendo mancare le basi legali per continuare a tenerlo nel carcere di Tora, la stessa struttura nella periferia del Cairo dove da ieri si trova anche Mohammed Badie, leader della Fratellanza Musulmana arrestato nella Capitale.

Con Egipto controlado por los militares, el primer presidente elegido por las urnas en detención militar y más de mil muertes en una semana de represión contra las fuerzas islamistas, este miércoles un juzgado de El Cairo ordenó la liberación del hombre que rigió el país durante tres décadas y contra cuyo régimen se levantó una revolución que inició un experimento democrático abortado poco más de un año después de nacer. Pero en un comunicado citado por la agencia Reuters, el Gobierno interino ha colocado al exdictador bajo arresto domiciliario, "bajo los términos del estado de emergencia".
Un tribunal de apelaciones de El Cairo estimó que ya se han agotado todas las apelaciones presentadas por la fiscalía para mantener a Hosni Mubarak en prisión. Sus cuatro procesos siguen abiertos, los de corrupción y el de la responsabilidad en la muerte de más de 800 manifestantes. Pero es muy probable que Mubarak salga de prisión en las próximas horas, cuando Egipto vive los días más inciertos tras su expulsión del poder.
El abogado de Mubarak, Farid el Dib, anunció la orden de liberación tras la vista oral que se produjo este miércoles en la prisión de Tora, en cuya planta médica se hallaba encerrado el expresidente. La fiscalía ya ha dicho que no apelará la decisión a pesar de las 48 horas concedidas por el juez, que dijo el plazo de prisión preventiva está ya agotado, después de varios meses en los que el tribunal ha prorrogado la detención en plazos de dos semanas. El caso en cuestión era el de corrupción por la aceptación de 28 millones de libras egipcias (2,9 millones de euros) en regalos de la editora de diarios pública Al Ahram, una cantidad que Mubarak ha devuelto de su fortuna personal. Hosni Moubarak a quitté la prison de Tora, au sud du Caire, et a été transféré dans un hôpital militaire, a-t-on appris jeudi après-midi 22 août auprès du ministère de l'Intérieur égyptien.
Un peu plus tôt, le parquet égyptien avait validé la remise en liberté de Hosni Moubarak. La prison de Tora, au sud du Caire, avait reçu ordre de libérer l'ex-président. Des instructions écrites du parquet ont été transmises en ce sens à la direction de l'établissement.
L'armée, qui dirige de facto le pays depuis qu'elle a destitué le 3 juillet son successeur, le président islamiste Mohamed Morsi, a coupé court aux spéculations, en prévenant que Hosni Moubarak serait "assigné à résidence" s'il sort de prison, probablement dans un hôpital militaire, selon des responsables de la sécurité.
"Dans le cadre de la loi sur l'état d'urgence, [le pouvoir militaire, NDLR] a ordonné que Moubarak soit placé en résidence surveillée", a annoncé un communiqué du gouvernement mis en place par l'armée après la destitution le 3 juillet du successeur de Hosni Moubarak, l'islamiste Mohamed Morsi.

Αποφυλακίστηκε ο Μουμπάρακ...Έφυγε με ελικόπτερο...
DeleteΑποφυλακίστηκε την Πέμπτη ο έκπτωτος πρόεδρος της Αιγύπτου Χόσνι Μουμπάρακ, μετά την απαλλαγή του από τις κατηγορίες για υπόθεση διαφθοράς. Αναμένεται να τεθεί σε κατ’ οίκον περιορισμό, αφού εξακολουθεί να αντιμετωπίζει κατηγορίες για διαφθορά και συνέργεια στη δολοφονία διαδηλωτών το 2011.
Ο 85χρονος Μουμπάρακ απομακρύνθηκε με ελικόπτερο από τις φυλακές Τόρα στο Κάιρο, ενώ δεκάδες υποστηρικτές του είχαν συγκεντρωθεί εκεί, φωνάζοντας συνθήματα.
Από το Μάιο διεξάγεται η επαναληπτική δίκη του Μουμπάρακ για συνέργεια στη δολοφονία διαδηλωτών σε αντικυβερνητικές συγκεντρώσεις που οδήγησαν στην ανατροπή του από την προεδρία μετά από 30 χρόνια παραμονής του στην εξουσία.
Το 2012 ο Χόσνι Μουμπάρακ καταδικάστηκε σε ισόβια κάθειρξη για το θάνατο 800 διαδηλωτών, όμως δικαστήριο έκανε δεκτή την έφεσή του.

La legación del país norafricano en Madrid señaló en un comunicado que los partidarios de la Hermandad Musulmana imponen sufrimientos a la sociedad egipcia por sus actos de "terrorismo contra los lugares de culto, comercios e instituciones", consignó la agencia de noticias Europa Press.
El texto fue producto del llamado a los embajadores del Estado árabe en la UE para expresarles quejas por la forma en que fueron reprimidas dos concentraciones de seguidores del presidente Mohamed Mursi en la capital egipcia y en la provincia de Giza.
Según distintas fuentesn más de 700 personas murieron en los choques de esta semana, mientras que un número varias veces superior resultaron heridas y miles detenidas.
El comunicado afirmó que las protestas de los islamistas buscan socavar "los pilares del Estado para propagar el caos y destruir las instituciones" y refiere ataques a comisarías, hospitales, iglesias, mezquitas y saqueo de museos.
En tanto, el consejero cultural egipcio en España, Al Sayed Soheim, condenó la "hipocresía" de Estados Unidos y de la UE ante los acontecimientos en su país y aseguró que no existe peligro de guerra civil porque ninguna de las partes quiere llegar a ese extremo.
Madrid, al igual que la mayoría de las capitales europeas, pidió ayer a Egipto un "diálogo inclusivo y amplio de todas las partes" y expresó su condena a lo que calificó de violencia en los disturbios que oponen a los partidarios del derrocado presidente Mursi y las fuerzas del orden.

Estados árabes aseguran que masacre en Egipto es un “derecho legítimo”...
ReplyDeleteLos Emiratos Árabes Unidos (EAU) se sumaron a la decisión tomada por el rey de Arabia Saudí, Abdolá bin Abdelaziz Al Saud, quien respaldó al Gobierno de Facto en Egipto, y aseguraron que la masacre que se está perpetrando contra seguidores del presidente derrocado Mohamed Mursi es un “derecho legítimo” de las autoridades.
Tras los recientes enfrentamientos ocurridos en el país del medio Oriente, el rey Abdolá bin Abdelaziz Al Saud aseguró que la brutal represión de los partidarios del presidente depuesto egipcio es completamente legal.
Ante esto, los Estados Árabes afirmaron que las palabras del rey saudí llegaron en “un momento crucial” y que las declaraciones son totalmente respaldadas por los líderes de EAU.
Bahréin también se manifestó a favor de la ayuda del monarca saudí en la represión encabezada por las autoridades egipcias contra los partidarios del presidente derrocado.
Mediante un comunicado, Kuwait secundó al rey Saudí en el que alabó las medidas del Gobierno egipcio para "mantener" la seguridad y la "estabilidad" en el país, pese a que casuan cientos de muertes.

DeleteSenior Turkish government officials have taken aim at the head of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Turkey’s Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, for the organization’s inaction over the Egyptian army’s heavy crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood protesters, calling on him to resign for “dishonorable passivity.”
“If I were the secretary-general of the OIC, I would invite all member countries to adopt a joint position against the coup in Egypt and to stand against these killings,” Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ said in an interview with Kanal 24 on yesterday. “If member countries rejected that, then I would resign in reaction. If I were him, I wouldn’t stand as the head of an organization in the face of such a dishonorable move.”
İhsanoğlu, a Turkish citizen, was elected as the secretary-general of the 57-member OIC in 2005 for a nine-year term after Turkish government exerted great effort for his election to the important international organization.
“Is there anybody who knows what İhsanoğlu is doing? This person had accused [ousted President Mohamed] Morsi after the coup,” Hüseyin Çelik, deputy leader of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), said via Twitter late Aug. 17. Recalling that Turkish President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had pushed for his election to the post, Çelik said, “As I recall, I say ‘what a pity.’”
Referring to the heavy crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood protesters on Aug. 14, İhsanoğlu called on “all parties to exercise restraint and to return to dialogue in order to forge national consensus and bring about social peace.”
“What ‘all parties?’ Which ‘restraint?’” asked Bozdağ. “There is no conflict between two parties. One of the parties has its thoughts, faith and spirit. The other party has its weapons, force and power.”
According to the deputy prime minister, both the OIC and the Arab League have failed on the Egyptian test, arguing that the OIC was not the organization of kings but of Islam. “Its original name contains the word Islam. El nuevo hombre fuerte de Egipto, el general Abdel Fatah Al Sisi, se ha referido a la situación del país este domingo por primera vez desde la matanza de cientos de islamistas por parte de las fuerzas de seguridad. Al Sisi, jefe del Ejército y ministro de Defensa, ha advertido este domingo de que la violencia "no doblegará al Estado" y que las autoridades no permanecerán "impasibles ante la destrucción del país y las amenazas contra la población".
Ante mandos de las fuerzas de seguridad, que han protagonizado una dura represión de las protestas islamistas por el golpe, aseguró que los militares respetan la voluntad popular y no ansían el poder. Al Sisi pidió a los seguidores del depuesto presidente Mohamed Morsi que reflexionen, refiriéndose a aquellos que "se imaginan que la violencia hará arrodillarse al Estado y a los egipcios". Y a los medios de comunicación occidentales les dijo que no permitirá que den una imagen "errónea de que existe una lucha entre el pueblo".

Mientras Egipto se desangra, Europa sopesa qué medidas va a adoptar en represalia a la matanza de civiles. Los presidentes de la Comisión y del Consejo Europeo, José Manuel Durao Barroso y Herman Van Rompuy, han emitido un comunicado conjunto que contiene dos cargas de profundidad contra el régimen que surgió tras la caída del islamista Mohamed Morsi. Los dos líderes europeos, que en su momento no calificaron de golpe de Estado la caída de Morsi, responsabilizan a los actuales gobernantes y el Ejército de lo que está pasando.
En segundo lugar, ambos aseguran que Europa debería revisar sus relaciones con El Cairo. "La violencia y los asesinatos no pueden justificarse ni tolerarse. Los derechos humanos deben respetarse. Los prisioneros políticos deben ser liberado", señalan Barroso y Van Rompuy.
El comunicado conjunto supone un paso más allá en la respuesta diplomática a la crisis egipcia. La jefa de la diplomacia europea, Catherine Ashton, responsabilizó esta semana al Gobierno interino de la violencia. Además, el presidente francés, François Hollande, y la canciller alemana, Angela Merkel, ya habían anunciado el viernes que endurecerían su relación con el régimen egipcio y pedían al resto de la UE que hiciera lo mismo. Brotherhood supporters hit the streets as army vows to confront violence...
ReplyDeleteMuslim Brotherhood supporters took to the streets of Egypt on Sunday, despite reports that protests were called off. The army said it will not tolerate violence amid reports that thousands of Morsi loyalists were arrested and facing terrorism charges.
Hundreds of Brotherhood supporters could be seen marching in Giza – some 20 kilometers from Cairo – with reports saying they are heading to the capital to join the others gathering in front of the Constitutional Court.
Conflicting reports earlier said that the Brotherhood canceled its Sunday rallies, including the march to the the Constitutional Court, due to security concerns. Brotherhood officials, quoted by Al Jazeera, said they were calling off their planned protest marches due to “the presence of army snipers on buildings along the routes.”
The rally was planned as the first in a series of daily protests in response to this week’s violent crackdown on Brotherhood sit-ins, which resulted in more than 700 deaths. The Islamist group has dubbed the action the “The Putschists’ Departure week.”
Meanwhile, prosecutors are investigating some 250 Brotherhood supporters on charges of murder, attempted murder and terrorism, state MENA news agency reported.
Egypt’s security forces have arrested 3,500 supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi since August 14, Ahram Online cited Muslim Brotherhood lawyer Mustafa El-Demeery as saying. El-Demeery said about 2,000 Morsi loyalists were arrested during the dispersal of the Rabaa Al-Adaweya and Al-Nahda sit-ins on Wednesday. Die Masken sind gefallen. Und viele Leute, die ich kenne, halten diese Demaskierung für einen äußerst wichtigen Schritt auf dem Weg zum Erfolg der ägyptischen Revolution. Die Ägypter haben während des vergangenen Monats jede politische Strömung sehr genau kennengelernt, ihre Konturen, ihre Stärke, ihre Ideologie, ihre Anhänger. Ganz deutlich ist das wahre Gesicht eines jeden politischen Akteurs, eines jeden Journalisten und Aktivisten erkennbar geworden. Alle wurden gezwungen, ihre Karten offenzulegen.
Die Maske der Muslimbrüder, die ihnen das Aussehen einer nichtkonfessionellen, nicht den Anderen ausschließenden Gruppierung verleihen sollte, ist gefallen; die Maske derer, die angeblich an den demokratischen Staat glauben. Nun ist ihr wahres Gesicht zum Vorschein gekommen als eine religiöse Gruppierung, die nur sich selbst verherrlicht, die Ägypten verachtet und an der Errichtung eines islamischen Kalifatsstaats von Indonesien bis Marokko arbeitet. Zum Vorschein kam zum Beispiel auch die sogenannte fünfte Kolonne der Muslimbrüder. Und zum Vorschein kam Mohamed El Baradeis Gesicht, das viele seiner Parteianhänger enttäuschte.

In einer sehr alten und äußerst komplexen Gesellschaft wie der unseren war es eher unwahrscheinlich, dass diese Masken, die seit ewigen Zeiten getragen wurden, fallen könnten. Saudi warns against Western pressure on Egypt army over crackdown...

"We will not achieve anything through threats," Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, told reporters through an interpreter during a visit to Paris.
The Saudi official made his comments after meeting French President Francois Hollande, who on Thursday called for a swift end to a state of emergency imposed by Egypt's military authorities.

Alors que le Qatar, considéré comme le principal soutien des Frères musulmans, a vivement dénoncé l'intervention de la police égyptienne contre les partisans du président islamiste déchu Mohamed Morsi, l'Arabie saoudite a proclamé son ferme soutien au nouveau pouvoir égyptien "face au terrorisme".
Recevant le ministre saoudien des Affaires étrangères, le prince Saoud Al-Fayçal, le président français François Hollande a invoqué le "devoir" des pays qui ont "une relation de confiance et d'amitié [avec l'Egypte, NDLR] de tout faire pour que les violences cessent", que "le dialogue politique puisse être engagé".
"Il n'est pas acceptable qu'il y ait dans un grand pays comme l'Egypte des violences de ce niveau", a déclaré le chef de l'Etat français, alors que les heurts entre forces de l'ordre et partisans du président islamiste déchu ont fait au moins 750 morts en quatre jours.

At least 36 detained protesters have been killed in Egypt while attempting to escape from a prison convoy, police have said.
There were conflicting reports of how Sunday's deaths occurred. The Egyptian interior ministry said the prisoners had taken an officer hostage and died after suffocating to death after police fired tear gas.
"Thirty-six of the prisoners died of suffocation and crowding after tear gas was used to stop their escape," the ministry said.

25 Egyptian policemen killed in Sinai peninsula by suspected militants...

The officials say the attack took place as the two vehicles were driving through a village near the town of Rafah, located on the border of the Gaza Strip in the volatile Sinai Peninsula. According to authorities, the militants forced the two vehicles to stop and the policemen were ordered outside and made to lie down before they were shot execution-style. The officials said that the policemen were off-duty and in civilian clothes.

Drei weitere Beamte seien am Montagmorgen bei der Attacke mit Panzerfäusten nahe der Grenzstadt Rafah im Süden des Gazastreifens verletzt worden.
Rafah liegt auf der Sinai-Halbinsel an der Grenze zum palästinensischen Gazastreifen. Dort hat sich die Sicherheitslage seit der Revolution gegen den langjährigen Machthaber Hosni Mubarak vor gut zweieinhalb Jahren massiv verschlechtert. La semaine précédente, l'Egypte, en pleine crise politique accompagnée de violences ayant fait plus de 800 morts, avait annoncé fermer le terminal pour une durée indéterminée, mais celui-ci avait en partie rouvert samedi, selon le ministère de l'Intérieur du Hamas, qui contrôle l'enclave palestinienne.
La base arrière de groupes islamistes radicaux
Alors que l'ensemble du pays, placé sous état d'urgence, s'enfonce dans la violence, l'attaque de lundi porte à 73 le bilan, selon un décompte AFP, des membres des forces de l'ordre tués dans le seul Nord-Sinaï depuis la destitution du président islamiste Mohamed Morsi par l'armée le 3 juillet. Durant cette même période, l'armée a affirmé avoir tué près de 70 "terroristes" au Sinaï.
Des groupes islamistes radicaux ont établi leur base arrière dans cette péninsule essentiellement désertique et majoritairement peuplée de bédouins aux relations difficiles avec le pouvoir central, théâtre en outre de multiples trafics le long de la frontière israélienne. En juillet, l'Egypte avait déployé des forces supplémentaires dans la péninsule pour lutter contre les groupes radicaux.

Para Israel, sólo el Ejército puede estabilizar Egipto...

Sin apoyar necesariamente lo que ha pasado, está claro que el único elemento que puede establecer algún tipo de orden es el militar", aseguró a la agencia EFE un alto militar israelí que pidió no ser identificado.
Según la fuente, "si se quiere evitar que Egipto siga el camino de Siria, hay que ser muy realista y comprender que la democracia sólo puede surgir después de estabilizarse la situación".
"Ahora mismo, más allá de quien sea la culpa, se ha creado una situación cuya única salida pasa por la estabilización por las fuerzas de seguridad. ¿Quién va a poner orden si no lo hace el Ejército?, ¿los Hermanos Musulmanes?, ¿los elementos armados que están disparando contra los militares?", se preguntó el funcionario.
El militar de alto rango enfatizó que "para estabilizar Egipto y su península del Sinaí hace falta ser realista primero e idealista después" y que es necesario que el Ejército calme la situación "para luego reanudar el camino hacia más libertades políticas y más democracia".
La posición oficial israelí es que ni puede ni debe intervenir en la crisis egipcia, que observa muy cuidadosamente por afectar a su frontera sur y la estabilidad regional. Sin embargo, su diplomacia va más allá y transmite a las potencias europeas y a Washington su convicción de la necesidad de apoyar al régimen sustentado por los militares, que depusieron el pasado julio al presidente electo Mohamed Mursi.

ReplyDeleteIl faut soutenir l'armée égyptienne dans son épreuve de force avec les Frères musulmans, a affirmé un responsable israélien cité par le quotidien Jerusalem Post, "pour leur permettre de remettre leur pays en marche". Son identité et ses fonctions n'ont été précisées.
Selon le responsable cité par le Jerusalem Post, il ne faut "rien retirer (aux militaires), ne pas leur nuire, ni les menacer". Il faisait ainsi allusion à l'annulation récente par des Etats-Unis de manoeuvres militaires avec l'Egypte et à un éventuel gel de l'aide américaine annuelle de 1,5 milliard de dollars (dont 1,3 milliard d'aide militaire) à l'Egypte.
Motus et bouche cousue
Les médias israéliens ont indiqué que le Premier ministre Benjamin Netanyahu a ordonné aux membres de son gouvernement ainsi qu'aux porte-paroles officiels de ne pas s'exprimer publiquement sur les événements en Egypte et ne pas émettre de critiques sur la politique américaine envers l'Egypte.
Le Jerusalem Post ajoute que les dirigeants israéliens estiment dans leurs messages adressés à Washington et aux principaux pays européens qu'il faut agir de telle sorte que l'Egypte ne s'effondre pas. "La priorité actuellement ce n'est pas la démocratie mais la nécessité que l'Etat (Egyptien) fonctionne. Une fois l'Egypte remise sur les rails, on pourra parler d'un redémarrage du processus démocratique", a affirmé ce responsable.
"Si vous écartez ce facteur (l'armée), l'Egypte prendra le chemin de la Syrie, de la Tunisie et de la Libye", a-t-il poursuivi.

Israel quietly maintains ties with Egyptian army...

The 1979 peace treaty, Israel’s first with an Arab country, has been a cornerstone of regional security for three decades. It has allowed Israel to divert resources to volatile fronts with Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories. For Egypt, it opened the way to billions of dollars in US military aid.
Although diplomatic relations have never been close, the two militaries have had a good working relationship. These ties have only strengthened since longtime President Hosni Mubarak was ousted in a popular uprising two and a half years ago. With both armies battling extremist Jihadi groups in the Sinai Peninsula, near the Israeli border, Israeli security officials often say that relations with their Egyptian counterparts are stronger than ever.
With so much at stake, Israel has remained quiet since the Egyptian military ousted Mubarak’s Islamist successor, Mohammed Morsi, in a coup on July 3. Morsi, who became Egypt’s first democratically elected president, hails from the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group considered the parent organization of militant Palestinian Hamas that rules the Gaza Strip and is a bitter enemy of Israel.
Israel has not commented on this week’s bloodshed, in which the Egyptian troops killed hundreds of Morsi’s supporters who were rallying against the coup and demanding that he be reinstated.
“Israel does not have to support the (Egyptian) regime, especially not publicly. Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood top leader arrested in Cairo...
ReplyDeleteCAIRO, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- General Guide of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood Mohamed Badie was arrested by police in Cairo, official news agency MENA reported early Tuesday, citing a security source.
He has been transferred with intensive security measures to Torah prison, where former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons are detained, the report said.
Badie was arrested in an apartment in Tayran street in northeastern Nasr City district of Cairo. The street is just behind Rabaa al-Adawiya Square, one of the two sites where supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi used to rally.
Also, two Brotherhood leading members, Youssef Talaat and Hassan Maleik, were arrested along with Badie.
On July 4, just one day after the ouster of Morsi, Egyptian acting prosecutor general Ahmed Ezz el-Din ordered an arrest warrant against the Brotherhood top leader over charges of inciting the killing of anti-Morsi protesters.
Badie's deputy, Kirate El-Shater, was also on the arrest warrant, as investigations revealed that they had hired thugs to kill Morsi's opponents at the Brotherhood's headquarters in Cairo' s Muqattam district.

Ο επικεφαλής καθοδηγητής της Μουσουλμανικής Αδελφότητας συνελήφθη μαζί με έναν ακόμη ανώτερο ηγέτη του κινήματος σε ένα διαμέρισμα κοντά στην περιοχή αλ- Ραμπαά Αντίγια τον τόπο όπου την Τετάρτη, σκοτώθηκαν περισσότεροι από 280 υποστηρικτές του Μοχάμεντ Μόρσι που ανατράπηκε από τον στρατό στις 3 Ιουλίου.
Τόσο η δημόσια τηλεόραση όσο και ιδιωτικά δίκτυα που υποστηρίζουν σχεδόν ομόφωνα το στρατιωτικό πραξικόπημα, που ανέτρεψε τον πρόεδρο Μόρσι, έδωσαν στη δημοσιότητα εικόνες του 70χρονου Μπαντί να κάθεται σε ένα γραφείο, με ένα παραδοσιακό μακρύ λευκό χιτώνα, ενώ η ιστοσελίδα της κρατικής τηλεόρασης έδειξε φωτογραφίες του ισλαμιστή ηγέτη σε μια κλούβα της αστυνομίας.
Αιγυπτιακό δικαστήριο διέταξε τη σύλληψή του, καθώς κατηγορείται για «υποκίνηση σε βία». Ο γιος του Μπαντί σκοτώθηκε την Παρασκευή, αλλά ο ηγέτης της συντηρητικής ισλαμικής ομάδα, που ιδρύθηκε το 1929, δεν παρέστη στην κηδεία.

Israel warns US: Fall of Egyptian military will risk peace talks...
ReplyDeleteIsrael has urged the US to back the Egyptian military, saying losing Egypt to Islamists could risk the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
According to an Israeli official quoted by the paper, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have traditionally played an important role in providing the Palestinians the support to stay in the negotiations and to make concessions, and without them there is a chance the talks will fail.

Turquía asegura que Israel orquestó el golpe militar en Egipto...
ReplyDeleteEl primer ministro de Turquía, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, responsabilizó este martes a Israel de estar detrás del golpe de Estado militar que derrocó el pasado 3 de julio al presidente egipcio Mohamed Mursi.
"¿Ellos qué dicen sobre Egipto? Que la democracia no está en las urnas. ¿Quién está detrás de esto? Israel", sostuvo Erdogan en Ankara durante una reunión con los dirigentes regionales de su partido, el islamista Justicia y Desarrollo (AKP).
Asimismo, Erdogan aseguró que "tenemos las pruebas", refiriéndose a un foro celebrado en Francia antes de las elecciones de 2012, que condujeron al poder a Mursi, respaldado por la agrupación Hermanos Musulmanes.
En este encuentro, según Erdogan, el ministro de Justicia israelí y un intelectual judío afirmaron que, "incluso si los Hermanos Musulmanes ganan las elecciones, no saldrán vencedores, ya que la democracia no está en las urnas".
A finales de abril pasado, activistas de la oposición crearon la base para el movimiento de protesta contra Mursi llamado Tamarod, que significa "revuelta" en árabe. Seguidamente, el 30 de junio millones de personas salieron a las calles para manifestarse en contra de las políticas del jefe de Estado, lo que coincidió con el primer año de su gobierno.

Senior Muslim Brotherhood leader Essam el-Erian was arrested on Wednesday in a Cairo suburb, in the latest crackdown against members of the Islamist movement.
Erian, the deputy leader of the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice party, was taken into custody from a residence in New Cairo where he had been in hiding, Reuters reported.
“Yes, he’s been arrested and details will soon be released,” a Ministry source told Reuters.
Photos of his arrest have been circulated in the local media showing Erian smiling and gathering his belongings.
Since the overthrow of Islamist President Mohammad Mursi by the army on July 3, more than 2,000 members of the Brotherhood have been arrested.
The military-backed interim government also launched a crackdown on pro-Mursi protest camps in August, at least 1,000 people were killed in the clashes.
An Egyptian court in September banned the Muslim Brotherhood group and seized their funds. Mursi along with top Brotherhood officials are facing accusations of incitement to violence and killing.

Egyptian students protest after Brotherhood leader arrested...
Delete(Reuters) - Egyptian police fired teargas at protesting students at Cairo's al-Azhar university on Wednesday hours after authorities announced the detention of Muslim Brotherhood leader Essam El-Erian, part of a crackdown against the Islamist movement.
Erian, deputy leader of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice party, was taken into custody from a residence in New Cairo where he had been in hiding, an Interior Ministry source told Reuters.
At the al-Azhar university's main campus, students smashed windows, hurled chairs and covered walls of an administrative building with graffiti.
"Sisi is a dog. Down, down with the lord of the army," one protester scribbled, referring to army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who led the overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi.
One police officer yelled: "Arrest anyone you see. Bring me those kids. If you see anyone just arrest them right away."
Students at Egypt's top institution for Islamic teachings have demonstrated for weeks in support of the Islamist Mursi, whom the army toppled in July after mass protests against his rule. Demonstrations there are a sensitive matter because the institution has historically toed the government line.
Many Brotherhood leaders have been detained since the overthrow of Mursi, Egypt's first freely elected president. He, Erian and 13 other Brotherhood leaders are expected to go on trial on Monday on charges of inciting violence.
The charges relate to the deaths of about a dozen people in clashes outside the presidential palace last December after Mursi enraged protesters with a decree expanding his powers.
The trial of three senior Muslim Brotherhood leaders on charges of inciting violence was halted on Tuesday after the judge withdrew from the case.
Although he did not spell out his reasons, in similar situations in the past judges complained there was a lack of evidence, procedures were illegal or that the cases were politically motivated.
The trials are likely to create more upheaval in Egypt, which has a peace treaty with Israel and controls the Suez Canal, a vital global trade route.
TURMOIL IN STRATEGIC NATION
The Brotherhood, which demands Mursi's reinstatement, accuses the army of staging a coup that sabotaged democratic gains made since a popular uprising toppled autocrat Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
At least 1,000 people, including members of the security forces, were killed in the violence that followed Mursi's overthrow. Hundreds of his supporters died when police forces stormed two protest camps on August 14.
An Egyptian court in September banned the Muslim Brotherhood group and seized their funds to try to crush the movement, which the government accuses of inciting violence and terrorism.

78 Brotherhood members arrested for trying to 'obstruct' Egypt vote...
ReplyDeleteThe authorities on Wednesday arrested 78 members of the Muslim Brotherhood in different parts of the country for allegedly attacking police stations and "inciting" protests against Egypt's constitutional referendum, currently underway, the Interior Ministry said.
In a statement, the ministry said that 52 members of the Brotherhood, the movement from which ousted president Mohamed Morsi hails, had been arrested in the southern Minya province for "inciting" protests against the referendum.
The alleged incitement, the ministry added, violated Egypt's recently-passed protest law, which criminalizes unauthorized demonstrations and marches.
According to the ministry, police arrested 15 people in the southern Sohag province for inciting protests, attempting to impede balloting, and possessing illegal firearms and fireworks.
Authorities also arrested seven Brotherhood members in the central Fayoum province for allegedly attacking a police station, the ministry statement added.
The ministry went on to say that authorities had also arrested four Brotherhood members in the Qalioubiya province for "planning to incite violence" and "possessing a pistol, five bullets and documents linked to the Brotherhood."
Egyptians on Wednesday cast ballots on the second day of a nationwide referendum on an amended version of Egypt's 2012 constitution. The interim government has taken unprecedented security measures to secure the vote, deploying hundreds of thousands of army personnel and police countrywide.
Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim on Wednesday vowed to react "very violently" to any attempt to obstruct the voting.
"We will respond violently and immediately to anyone who attempts to hamper the referendum by force," Ibrahim said while touring polling stations in eastern Cairo.
On Tuesday, the first day of the vote, police arrested 249 people for allegedly attempting to obstruct balloting in a number of Egyptian provinces.
