Ο εκπρόσωπος του αμερικανού Προέδρου Μπαράκ Ομπάμα Τζος Έρνεστ χαρακτήρισε τους ισχυρισμούς του τούρκου Πρωθυπουργού «προσβλητικούς, αβάσιμους και λανθασμένους».
«Καταδικάζουμε έντονα τις δηλώσεις που έκανε σήμερα ο Πρωθυπουργός Ερντογάν. Το να υπαινίσσεται κανείς ότι το Ισραήλ είναι κατά κάποιο τρόπο υπεύθυνο για τις πρόσφατες εξελίξεις στην Αίγυπτο είναι προσβλητικό, αβάσιμο και λανθασμένο», τόνισε ο εκπρόσωπος κατά την τακτική ενημέρωση των δημοσιογράφων στην Ουάσινγκτον.
Νωρίτερα, ο τούρκος Πρωθυπουργός μιλώντας σε στελέχη του κόμματός του είπε: «Ξέρετε αυτό που λένε, ότι στην Αίγυπτο η δημοκρατία δεν στηρίζεται στις κάλπες. Ποιος βρίσκεται πίσω απ΄ αυτό; Το Ισραήλ», υποστηρίζοντας ότι έχει αποδείξεις για τα λεγόμενά του.
Οι αιγυπτιακές αρχές απέρριψαν επίσης αυτές τις κατηγορίες, υπογραμμίζοντας ότι οι δηλώσεις του Ερντογάν είναι αβάσιμες.

"We strongly condemn the statements that were made by Prime Minister
Erdogan today. Suggesting that Israel is somehow responsible for recent
events in Egypt is offensive, unsubstantiated, and wrong," White House
spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters in a briefing.Earlier on Tuesday, Erdogan told provincial leaders of his AK Party: "What do they say in Egypt? Democracy is not the ballot box. What is behind it? Israel. We have in our hands documentation."

Der israelische Regierungschef Benjamin Netanjahu hat empört auf türkische Vorwürfe reagiert, dass sein Land hinter dem Sturz des ägyptischen Präsidenten Mohammed Mursi stecke. Die entsprechenden Aussagen des türkischen Ministerpräsidenten Recep Tayyip Erdogan seien "absurd", erklärte das Büro Netanjahus.
Zuvor hatte bereits das Weiße Haus in Washington die Aussagen Erdogans zurückgewiesen. "Die Andeutung, dass Israel in irgendeiner Weise für die jüngsten Ereignisse in Ägypten verantwortlich ist, ist anstößig, unbegründet und falsch", sagte der Sprecher des US-Präsidialamtes, Josh Earnest.
Der türkische Regierungschef hatte Israel vorgeworfen, hinter der Absetzung Mursis durch das Militär zu stecken. "Wer steht dahinter? Es ist Israel", sagte Erdogan bei einem Treffen seiner Partei AKP in Ankara. Er gab zugleich an, Beweise für seine Vorwürfe zu haben, nannte aber keine Einzelheiten. Offenbar bezog er sich auf ein auf Youtube kursierendes Video aus dem Jahr 2011, in dem der französische Philosoph Bernard Henri-Lévy die Muslimbrüder undemokratisch nennt. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday that he was “saddened” by Washington’s reaction to comments he made earlier this week regarding Israel’s involvement in the military takeover in Egypt.
Washington, he said, should not have addressed remarks that were clearly not aimed toward it — but rather, at Jerusalem.
On Tuesday, Erdogan alleged that Israel was behind the early July military coup in Egypt, which saw the democratically elected Islamist president Mohammad Morsi removed from power, and said that Turkey has the evidence to prove it.
Speaking at a meeting of his ruling Justice and Development Party, Erdogan said that his government could prove Israel’s involvement, and cited as evidence a statement made during a 2011 panel with Jewish intellectual Bernard Henri Levy and then-opposition leader Tzipi Livni in France, according to a Hurriyet Daily News report.
Erdogan cited Levy as saying at the time that “the Muslim Brotherhood will not be in power even if they win the elections. Because democracy is not the ballot box.”
“Now the West starts to say democracy is not the ballot box or not only the box, but we know that the ballot box is the people’s will,” Erdogan said. “This is what has been implemented in Egypt. Who is behind this? Israel. We have evidence,” the Turkish prime minister added.
The White House was quick to criticize Erdogan’s statement.
“We strongly condemn the statements that were made by Prime Minister Erdogan today.
