Les forces de l'ordre ont lancé un assaut en pleine nuit contre les manifestants réunis depuis des semaines sur la place de l'Indépendance, à Kiev, pour protester notamment contre le refus du pouvoir de signer un partenariat avec l'Union européenne. Au moins 10 000 personnes ont afflué sur les lieux en réaction à l'intervention policière. L'Union européenne a demandé aux autorités d'empêcher tout recours à la violence.
Des affrontements ont éclaté devant la mairie de la capitale dans la matinée. Le bâtiment est occupé depuis dimanche par l'opposition. Après environ une heure de tension, la police a été contrainte de quitter les lieux.
Pour tenter de désamorcer la contestation, le Premier ministre, Mykola Azarov, s'est dit prêt à signer un accord d'association avec l'Union européenne.
- Mais il conditionne cette signature à un investissement de 20 milliards d'euros de la part de Bruxelles dans le pays.

Ukraine/contestation: Paris appelle au dialogue....
ReplyDeleteLe ministre français des Affaires étrangères Laurent Fabius s'est entretenu mercredi par téléphone avec Vitali Klitchko, leader du parti Oudar, qui représente une des principales forces d'opposition en Ukraine, rapporte le Quai d'Orsay.
"MM.Fabius et Klitchko ont évoqué l'évolution de la situation ukrainienne et les moyens à mettre en œuvre pour sortir pacifiquement de la crise. M.Fabius a récusé tout usage de la force et appelé les parties à la retenue et au dialogue", lit-on dans le communiqué.
Selon le document, le chef de la diplomatie française a souligné l'attachement de la France au respect par les pouvoirs publics des libertés d'opinion et d'expression.
"La France soutient les efforts engagés pour faire émerger une solution politique. Le ministre des affaires étrangères a rappelé l'importance que la France attache au lancement d'un véritable processus de réformes en Ukraine. ReplyDeleteUkraine’s President Viktor Yanukovich has met with US Assistant Secretary of State Vitoria Nuland in Kiev. Nuland visited Independence Square earlier on Wednesday and spoke with protesters. The meeting came as the Ukrainian police clashed with the protesters outside the city hall in Kiev on Wednesday after security forces attempted to retake the building occupied by some 200 opposition activists for over a week.
Meanwhile, Victoria Nuland has said that the United States believes it is possible to save Ukraine's "European future" and Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich must lead the way. She added that this will require immediate security steps. Yulia Rusanova, a senior Analyst on Russia/CIS at Oxford Analytica talked to Voice of Russia on the situation.
Ms Rusanova said that in her opinion, EU integration is “a fairly big part of the protest movement”, because there is a “somewhat misguided notion” among many Ukrainian people that the EU association agreement would secure the country’s membership in the Union, while in reality “has never been on the table.”
“At the same time, I think this is also more of a push rather than a true process. In other words, what we see at play is a population’s desire to move away from the norms inherently associated with Russia and with the Soviet Union – that is corruption, lack of transparency and absence of the rule of law. The EU is seen as the polar opposite of that and hence the attraction as well,” – Ms Rusanova explained.
“Ukraine appears to have overestimated its significance to the EU. Now EU support has been and will continue to be largely rhetorical. In other words, the European media outlets and government leaders, particularly those who gathered at the Eastern partnership summit in Vilnius have highlighted the long-term benefits of closer links with the EU such as for example greater transparency. But at the same time Europe is reluctant to provide other forms of support, such as significant financial aid or accession to the EU. Neither of these is the possibility in the medium term," - she continued.
"The EU would of course like to see Ukraine sign the agreement. That is because of its strategic positioning, because Ukraine represents an interesting market for European products, and also because the EU needs to show some expansionary momentum at a time when Euro skepticism is quite high. White House condemns violence in Ukraine, pressures Yanukovich.........
ReplyDeleteThe White House on Wednesday condemned Ukrainian authorities' response to demonstrators in Kiev and urged President Viktor Yanukovich to listen to the Ukrainian people and return the country to a path toward European integration.
"The right to peaceful protest and assembly must be respected. Violence of this sort that we have seen on the streets of Kiev is impermissible in a democratic state," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told a briefing.
Earnest said lines of communication between the US government and Ukraine's government remained open.

ΗΠΑ: Εξετάζουν ακόμη και επιβολή κυρώσεων κατά της Ουκρανίας...
ReplyDeleteΌλες οι επιλογές, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της επιβολής κυρώσεων, εξετάζονται σχετικά με το ζήτημα της Ουκρανίας, ανακοίνωσε το Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ την Τετάρτη.
«Όλες οι επιλογές πολιτικής, περιλαμβανομένων των κυρώσεων, βρίσκονται στο τραπέζι» δήλωσε η εκπρόσωπος του Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ, Τζεν Ψάκι , υπογραμμίζοντας ωστόσο ότι το αμερικανικό υπουργείο Εξωτερικών βρίσκεται ακόμα στο στάδιο της αξιολόγησης της κατάστασης.
Δεν υπήρξαν διευκρινίσεις σχετικά με το τι είδους κυρώσεις βρίσκονται υπό συζήτηση.
Σημειώνεται ότι ο Ουκρανός πρόεδρος, Βίκτορ Γιανουκόβιτς δεσμεύθηκε την Τετάρτη να μην χρησιμοποιήσει βία κατά των ειρηνικών διαδηλωτών και κάλεσε την αντιπολίτευση σε διάλογο μετά τις συγκρούσεις της Τρίτης μεταξύ διαδηλωτών και αστυνομίας, στις οποίες τραυματίστηκαν δεκάδες άνθρωποι.
«Για να καταλήξουμε σε συμβιβασμό καλώ την αντιπολίτευση να μην απορρίψει τις συνομιλίες, να μην συνεχίσει στον δρόμο της αντιπαράθεσης και των τελεσιγράφων», αναφέρει ο κ. Γιανουκόβιτς σε ανακοίνωσή του, την οποία δεσμεύεται ότι δεν θα προσφύγει ποτέ στη βία εναντίον ειρηνικών διαδηλωτών.
Ωστόσο, ηγέτες των διαδηλωτών δηλώνουν ότι δεν πρόκειται να ξεκινήσουν διάλογο με τον Γιανουκόβιτς, μέχρι να ικανοποιηθούν τα αιτήματά τους, στα οποία περιλαμβάνεται η παραίτησή του.

Ukraine/contestation: Washington brandit la menace de sanctions...
ReplyDeleteLes Etats-Unis pourraient imposer des sanctions à l'encontre de l'Ukraine, théâtre d'importantes manifestations des partisans du rapprochement avec l'Union européenne, a déclaré mercredi à Washington la porte-parole du département d'Etat Jen Psaki.
"Toutes les options, dont l'imposition de sanctions, sont sur la table, mais l'évaluation n'est pas encore achevée et aucune décision n'est prise en la matière", a fait savoir la porte-parole.
Selon elle, Washington appelle les autorités ukrainiennes à reprendre le dialogue avec l'UE et le Fonds monétaire international, ainsi qu'à écouter la voix du peuple.
"Il est toujours possible pour l'Ukraine de poursuivre la voie de l'intégration européenne", a indiqué Mme Psaki.
Toujours d'après la porte-parole, la récente opération menée par les forces de l'ordre à Kiev pour disperser les manifestants pro-UE est "inadmissible" pour un pays démocratique.

ReplyDeleteΤηλεφωνική επικοινωνία με τον Ουκρανό ομόλογό του, Πάβελ Λεμπέντεφ, είχε ο υπουργός Άμυνας των ΗΠΑ, Τσακ Χέιγκελ.
Κατά την διάρκεια της επικοινωνίας τους ο υπουργός Άμυνας των ΗΠΑ, τόνισε στον Λεμπέντεφ ότι δεν πρέπει να υπάρξει επέμβαση του στρατού για την αντιμετώπιση των φιλοδυτικών διαδηλωτών που διαμαρτύρονταν κατά του ουκρανικού καθεστώτος και της απόφασής του να μην προχωρήσει στην εμπορική συμφωνία σύνδεσης με την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση.
«Τόνισε την ζημιά που θα μπορούσε να προκαλέσει οποιαδήποτε στρατιωτική επέμβαση για να κατασταλούν οι διαμαρτυρίες και απηύθυνε έκκληση για αυτοσυγκράτηση», ανέφερε ένας εκπρόσωπος του Πενταγώνου.
Θυμίζουμε ότι χθες το πρωί, ο πρόεδρος της Ουκρανίας, Βίκτορ Γιανουκόβιτς, υποσχέθηκε να μην κάνει χρήση βίας κατά των διαδηλωτών, καλώντας την αντιπολίτευση σε ανοιχτό διάλογο.

Nach dem harten Vorgehen ukrainischer Sicherheitskräfte gegen Demonstranten in der Hauptstadt Kiew erwägen die USA Sanktionen. Alle Optionen lägen auf dem Tisch, sagte die Sprecherin des Washingtoner Außenministeriums, Jen Psaki, am Mittwoch. Um repressive Staaten unter Druck zu setzen, hatten die USA bislang etwa Einreisebote für Regierungsvertreter verhängt oder Vermögen eingefroren. So reagierte Washington zum Beispiel auf das harte Vorgehen des syrischen Machthabers Baschar al-Assad.
In Kiew hatten Polizisten vor zehn Tagen gewaltsam eine Demonstration für einen EU-Kurs des Landes aufgelöst und Dutzende Menschen festgenommen. In der Nacht auf Mittwoch rückten Sicherheitskräfte gewaltsam gegen das Lager der Demonstranten im Zentrum der Stadt vor. Der Einsatz stieß bei der Europäischen Union, den USA und Deutschland auf scharfe Kritik.
"Es war wie ein Überfall für uns mitten in der Nacht", beschrieb der Oppositionspolitiker und Boxweltmeister Vitali Klitschko seine Erlebnisse in einem Gastbeitrag für die "Bild"-Zeitung. "Es war eine Horror-Nacht für alle Demonstranten, auch für mich.
