China deploys 10 satellites to help in search for Malaysia jet

China has deployed 10 satellites to help in the massive air and sea search for a missing Malaysian airliner, the People's Liberation Army Daily said on Tuesday.
The satellites will use high-resolution earth imaging capabilities, visible light imaging and other technologies to "support and assist in the search and rescue operations for the Malaysian Airlines aircraft", the newspaper said in an article that was also carried on the defense ministry's website.

Dozens of ships and aircraft from 10 countries scoured the seas around Malaysia and south of Vietnam as questions mounted over possible security lapses and whether a bomb or hijacking attempt could have brought down the Boeing 777-200ER which took off from the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

China has urged Malaysia to speed up the search for the plane. About two-thirds of the 227 passengers and 12 crew now presumed to have died aboard the plane were Chinese.

The Chinese satellites will also help in weather monitoring, communication and search operations in the area where the plane disappeared, the newspaper said.

China will also strengthen the Beidou navigation system's satellite monitoring capabilities to "provide reliable navigation for the rescue operations and communication support".

  1. Malaysia Airlines MH370: Last communication revealed...

The last communication received from a Malaysia Airlines plane suggests everything was normal on board minutes before it went missing over the South China Sea, Malaysian authorities say.

Flight MH370 replied "All right, roger that" to a radio message from Malaysian air control, authorities said.

The search has been widened to waters off both sides of the peninsula.

Malaysia's air force chief has denied reports the plane was tracked to the Malacca Strait in the west.

The China-bound plane went missing on Saturday with 239 people on board.

It vanished about an hour after it took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, as it flew over the South China Sea, south of Vietnam's Ca Mau peninsula. No distress signal or message was sent............http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26541057

  2. Official: Malaysian search for missing plane fruitless...

Planes sent Thursday to search the area where Chinese satellite images showed possible remains from the missing Malaysian jetliner found nothing, according to Malaysia’s civil aviation chief, quashing another lead in the now six-day hunt.

“There is nothing. We went there, there is nothing,” Azharuddin Abdul Rahman told reporters in Kuala Lumpur, the Associated Press reported.

Earlier on Thursday, a search by two Vietnamese aircraft responding to Chinese satellite information has failed to find evidence of wreckage from a missing Malaysian airliner, Reuters reported an official as saying.......http://english.alarabiya.net/en/News/asia/2014/03/12/Vietnam-suspends-air-search-for-Malaysian-jet-.html

  3. Missing Malaysia Airlines flight systems disabled, PM says...

The communications systems of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 were deliberately disabled, Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak has said.

According to satellite and radar evidence, he said, the plane then changed course and could have continued flying for a further seven hours.

He said the "movements are consistent with the deliberate action of someone on the plane"...........http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26591056

  5. Lost passenger jet was diverted deliberately: Malaysian PM...

(Reuters) - Investigators believe someone aboard a missing Malaysian airliner deliberately shut off its communications and tracking systems, turned the plane around and flew for nearly seven hours after it vanished, Prime Minister Najib Razak said on Saturday.

As the unprecedented search for Flight MH370 and its 239 passengers and crew entered its second week, Najib told a news conference that the hunt for wreckage around the scheduled flight path to the east of Malaysia was being called off.

"Despite media reports the plane was hijacked, I wish to be very clear, we are still investigating all possibilities as to what caused MH370 to deviate," Najib said.

The fate the of the Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 has been shrouded in mystery since it disappeared off Malaysia's east coast less than an hour into a March 8 scheduled flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing..........................http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/15/us-malaysiaairlines-flight-idUSBREA2701720140315?feedType=RSS&feedName=worldNews

  6. Malaysia ends search for missing airliner in South China Sea...

Malaysia said Saturday it was terminating a search in the South China Sea for the missing airliner, and redeploying assets to two possible corridors in the Indian Ocean.

Prime Minister Najib Razak said the Beijing-bound MH370 flight had changed course and headed westward before its communication system was disabled.

He identified "a northern corridor stretching approximately from the border of Kazakstan and Turkmenistan to northern Thailand or a southern corridor stretching approximately from Indonesia to southern Indian Ocean," he said.

"We are ending our operations in the South China Sea and reassessing the redeployment of our assets," he said. "We are working with relevant countries to request all information relevant to the search including radar data."
