Belarus tightens security on border with Ukraine.

  Belarus has tightened security along the border with Ukraine, Belarusian State Border Committee Chairman Leonid Maltsev said on Wednesday.

The situation on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border remained calm, but Belarus had tightened security along the border, Maltsev said. Passenger and vehicle traffic at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border has dropped, he added.

Maltsev refuted rumors that tanks and armored personnel carriers had been employed to protect the border. According to him, only police and interior troops had been used to beef up border security.

• The chairman also expressed the hope that developments in Ukraine would not influence the process of Belarus-Ukraine border demarcation which started in autumn 2013.
