Gas cooperation with Ukraine impossible without debt repayment. - Dmitry Medvedev

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Ukraine must find the money to settle its debt for Russian gas and make current payments or else there can be no cooperation in that sector. "Let our Ukrainian partners find the finances needed to pay debts and make current payments, because otherwise cooperation in this area, as in other areas, cannot be carried out," Medvedev said at a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller.

"This must be understood by everyone. This must be understood by the people who are currently, at this moment, making all essential decisions in Ukraine," he said.

Russian PM Medvedev cancels zero gas duty for Ukraine

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has announced the cancellation of the zero customs export duty on gas for Ukraine. During a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, the prime minister noted that in the context of the Kharkov agreement with Ukraine of April 30, 2010 the Russian government adopted a document establishing the zero duty.

"Considering the decreasing international legal grounds for the existence of the agreement and the denunciation of the agreement itself, I am making the decision to [annul] government resolution #291 of April 30, 2010," Medvedev said.

"This decision will have immediate direct consequences for Gazprom in future relations with [its] Ukrainian partners," he said.
