Ukrainian armed forces enter Mariupol: two people killed, eight wounded

Around 20 self defense members were killed and four were captured in Mariupol during the fight at the city police department, while law enforcement authorities have one dead and five injured, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said in comments delivered by Interfax.

Three people died and 25 were injured and brought to hospitals during the forceful operation held in Mariupol, the Donetsk regional state administration healthcare department said in a statement. "For now, the healthcare department does not possess information of the affiliation of those killed and injured," the document said, as reported by Interfax agency.

Two people killed, ten wounded in Ukraine's Mariupol- media

Two people were killed and ten others wounded in fighting in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol on Friday, local media reported, citing doctors. Ten gunshot wound victims are in hospital in Mariupol, where shooting has continued since morning, local mass media outlet reported. "Ten people with gunshot wounds have been taken to the Ilyicheyvsk hospital," the 0629.ua portal reported.

The city department building is burning, Mariupol residents build barricades on the streets, turn cars over and burn tires, the representative said, Interfax reports.

According to information from 'self-defense' groups, additional armored vehicles have been deployed to the local penitentiary facility near the village of Kamenka.

"They [armored vehicles] surrounded the facility, apparently, revolt is feared," the representative said.

RT reporter wounded in Ukraine's Mariupol


A freelance RT journalist has been injured in the fighting in Mariupol, a city in southeastern Ukraine.

"Our freelance reporter was wounded as the fighting was being filmed in Mariupol. He was wounded in the stomach, according to doctors, although he was wearing a bullet-proof jacket," RT's editor-in-chief, Margarita Simonyan, said on Twitter, Interfax reports.
