NATO exercise proves readiness for collective defense (Lithuania's president)

The largest NATO exercise in Lithuania and the Baltic countries is a concrete proof of readiness for collective defense, said Lithuania's president Dalia Grybauskaite in Rukla on Tuesday.

Grybauskaite said that the Alliance recognized security challenges and promptly responded to the new threats during her attendance of the DV and media day of Saber Strike 2014 held in Lithuania's army base in Rukla.

Lithuania's armed forces have shown good organizational and logistic abilities, according to Grybauskaite.
The allied offensive operation demonstrated reconnaissance and maneuver units of the allies in action, according to Lithuania's Ministry of National Defense.

The alleged targets of the offensive operation were engaged by two battle groups with all types of equipment and weaponry concurrently, said the ministry.
  • One of the battle groups is formed by Lithuanians and the other by Danish mainly.
As the largest contributor, Denmark sent roughly 900 troops to Lithuania with Leopard 2 A5 tanks, CV9035 infantry fighting vehicles, M113 armored personnel carriers and etc.

Xinhua saw a program participated by personnel, helicopters, tanks and other fighting vehicles in Rukla on Tuesday.

Lithuania's Speaker of parliament Loreta Grauziniene, and defense minister Juozas Olekas also joined Grybauskaite during the training program on the day of DV and media.

Saber Strike 2014, gathering troops from 10 countries, is being held concurrently in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia till June 20.
