Terrorist attack is priority theory in Ukrainian gas pipeline blast (investigation)

"Gas supply through this gas pipeline branch has been blocked now, the danger of a major disaster has been averted, and the fire had been extinguished as of 4:40 pm," he said, Interfax reports.

"Gas is being transported fully through a reserve branch," Avakov said.

Ukraine's state company Naftogaz Ukrainy will tighten security of the country's gas transportation system following an explosion at the Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhgorod trunk pipeline in the Poltava region.


"The situation is very alarming. It was a very strange coincidence of circumstances. We will do all we can to tighten security at all of the gas transportation system's facilities," Naftogaz head Andrei Kobolev wrote on Facebook.

Natural gas is transited by Ukraine to the European Union as usual, as per nominations, the Slovak gas transport system operator Eustream a.s. has confirmed....[The Voice of Russia]

  1. Major Ukraine gas pipeline hit by blast...

    A major pipeline in Ukraine carrying gas from Russia to the rest of Europe has been hit by a blast.

    Flames could be seen erupting from the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod Pipeline in central Ukraine. No one was reported injured by the explosion.

    It is not clear what caused the blast. European and Russian companies said gas exports to the EU were not affected.

    On Monday, Ukraine said Russia had cut off gas supplies to the country following a dispute over gas payments.

    Hundreds of lives have been lost in fighting in Ukraine's eastern Luhansk and Donetsk provinces, where pro-Russian rebels are battling government forces after declaring independence just over a month ago.
    Deliberate explosions?

    The blast took place at the pipeline, which is also known as the Trans-Siberian Pipeline, in Poltava province on Tuesday.

    Ukraine's gas transport monopoly, a Slovak gas transit firm, and sources at Russian gas producer Gazprom, all told reporters that the transit of gas to Europe would not be affected..............http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-27891018

    Der Leitungsbetreiber Uktransgaz betonte, die Lieferungen nach Europa seien nicht betroffen. Laut Nachrichtenagentur Reuters kann das Gas über eine Parallel-Leitung fließen. Vor der Detonation sei es aus noch ungeklärten Gründen zu einem Druckabfall gekommen. Augenzeugen in der Region Poltawa sprachen von einer rund 200 Meter hohen Flamme, die aus dem Rohr geschossen sei.
