His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday celebrated in Nepal

DHARAMSHALA: His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 79th birthday was celebrated with much fanfare in Nepal on 6 July. Over 3000 Tibetans from all over Nepal gathered at Jwalakhel in Kathmandu to join the celebration, organised by the Jwalakhel Tibetan community and handicraft centre.

Guests at the celebration include Representative Tamdin Dorje, Jigdol Sherpa, President of Nepal Buddhist Association, senior lamas of Tibetans monasteries, former members of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile residing in Nepal etc.

Representative Tamdin Dorje of the Office of Tibet based in Nepal, read out the statement of the Kashag on the 79th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Sonam Tsering, Chairman of the local Tibetan assembly of Jwalakhel, read out the statement of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile on the occasion.

Jigdol Sherpa, President of Nepal Buddhist Association also addressed the occasion, underlining the deep religious and cultural bond that Nepali Buddhists share with the Tibetan people especially His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The official ceremony was followed by Tibetan cultural performances by students of Namgyal High school, and Tibetan community members.
